What does everyone do when they buy a new Ram to help prevent rust on the quarters and rocker panels? Ziebart? I purchased a 2018 Ram 2500 new last year and plan on keeping it 10 years. I purchased the unlimited months and mile warranty and do not want it to rust out. What are you doing to help prevent rust?
Thanks Marty

I'll be the first to say it..."I prevent rust by not living in Illinois!"

Seriously, though, a lot of guys here do that annual undercoating thingy popular way north of the Red River...Ziebart and Krown, IIRC.

I live in New England but we have a place called nh oil undercoating. It’s basically a clear or black oil like coating that they spray everywhere underneath and in all the door and hood crevices and bumpers. Stuff is pretty messy for a few weeks but damn it works amazing. I would never put rhino liner or linex underneath a truck. It basically traps moisture and you won’t see your truck dusting away underneath the thick heavy coating. The oil undercoating is “self healing” meaning if a spot is worn away or takes a rock chip it gets filled in since the oil is always moving.

find a place that does fluid film undercoating.

the stupid part with krown, they drill holes, and it's not necessary when there re more than enough factory holes. Krown will drill a hole 1" away from a factory hole

Krown does not always drill holes. I've had my truck Krowned x2. They did not drill any holes. I specifically said, Do Not drill holes in my truck and they didn't. Krown St Louis is the shop.

I'm in Iowa for work and they use as much salt as they do in Illinois or Missouri. My truck is an 11. Zero rust.

With some years of Ram experience under my belt(and an auto body background) all I do is rinse it out real good on a regular basis. I get into every nook and cranny possible.
Even in the dead of winter, actually, especially in the dead of winter.
Keep that sand and salt away and you'll be good for life.

At first it's a little tedious and annoying but once you get into the routine it just become part of the regular maintenance. I usually do it during a wash, but in the winter I'll rinse a few times a week whether I wash it or not.

I dont like coatings and such. Just not a fan at all. I just use fresh water.

Please please do not put Ziebart on your truck. If you use that product you can expect it to rust out even quicker and worse than without it. And also a lot of shops will refuse to even work on your truck if you have mechanical problems and that garbage is applied.

Krown undercoating In the fall around August/September and then regular washing of the truck to keep the salt/road grime off of it year round is your best protection against rust.
