I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie Edition and I was buying a new tire and it currently has 275 r60 20s on it and one of them my bed so I bought a new tire and found out after I got it mounted on the rim that it is a 275 r55 20 if I'm putting it on the front and don't Engage The 4 wheel drive will it mess anything up until I can get the same size tire

it will probably wear faster but i wouldn't worry about it otherwise. if i need to use my spare which is a 17 inch against my 20s, i'm going to use it. its what dodge provided after all!

If you don't use 4WD, I would use it temporarily till you can get all four the same size.
My neighbor had this happen to his 2008, one of his tires was a different size when he had new tires installed. He found out when he put the truck in 4WD and it start making noises and jerking about.

I wouldn't drive it much until the same size tires are on it.
That is a fairly significant size difference.

One axle will be rotating 20 more revolutions per mile an hour.

Let the best differential win!

With a 4 wheel drive truck, all tires should be bought at the same time and the exact same size. If you engage 4 wheel drive, even accidentally, it may only be a matter of moments before something in the drivetrain goes boom in a very expensive way! So, even if you get 2 new tires, you will need to get the other 2 really quickly so that there isn't much difference in the diameters.

Yes it will mess up the 4x4 system!! All 4 tires need to be the same size and roughly the same amount of wear. On a 4x4 it’s very important to rotate the tires. Don’t get me wrong folks it’s equally important to rotate them on a 2wd also.

Wrong answer @buddy guy

ok..then explain this. if i have a flat tire, i am not supposed to put my temporary spare on and run it until i get to a tire shop the next day or if its a weekend, 2 days later to change it? then why am i carrying this spare tire paperweight? i'm not suggesting running it for days or weeks like it's a regular tire...or to run it in 4 wheel drive. as i said, it's what dodge provided and equipped my vehicle with.

(i don' argue the idea of not using it in 4 x 4 of course)

It’s all about the diameter of the tire. The width does not matter.....if the two diameters are identical.... the spare should be the same as your regular tires, then it’s OK to use it.

If you run two different diameter tires and put it in four-wheel-drive it will not end well.

i would never put it into 4 wheel drive with a spare on..and would get to the dealership asap. here's the comparisons btw on the spare we (i) have and stock 20:

So if we are traveling in 4wd and have a flat out in the boonies we're F'ed. Not very good planning on the factory's part. Smart to change the tire out to the same diameter should that problem arise.
