Not sure if this is the best place to post this but in PA we need annual emissions inspections in most parts of the state. Where I live we do not need it but my son does. He is picking up a 2018 2500 6.4 Hemi tomorrow and the dealer just called me and said they took it for emissions and the garage told them that anything rated over 10,000 miles does not need it? Anyone know if this is accurate?

Nevermind. Got my answer. Found out it is right. Anything over 9001lb classification does not need PA emissions inspection.

The whole pa emission thing is a joke. What good does it do if one county requires it but the next county over doesn’t. I’m glad the county that I live in doesn’t require it because it saves me money every year.

It was required to be Fed EPA compliant to be eligible for federal funds for highway use.
So the PA lawmakers said, fine but we will only implement the absolute minimum required - so you have the few counties that require them (if I remember correctly it was determined by air quality and maybe population).
They are thinking about revisiting requiring the tests due to the vast majority of cars on the road have OBD2 or newer computer systems and most will run like crap if there is a problem.

Does PA do something really stupid like make people on public assistance exempt from emmisions testing? Michigan used to do that :-(

Probably...lol. But then again I see alot of new cars parked in the projects all the time so often they have nicer cars than me...lol. And the ones that don't usually have expired registrations, suspended licenses and expired state inspections anyway...oh, and no insurance

No. But any car driven less than 5k miles per year is exempt from testing. Brand new cars are also exempt.
