hey, so I just bought a 97 5.9 Laramie ext cab, runs beautifully while driving, however on first start of the day, if I keep it parked idling it starts to sputter and makes almost a screeching sound, can’t pinpoint it. Any ideas?

Also the bed or cab sounds like it’s squeaking on the frame a little, also a head scratcher, I’ve been underneath, and it doesn’t look loose from
The frame, or bent.

Also any solid tips, I’m very mechanically independent and am not afraid to tackle most problems or updates I should do before doing anything cosmetic

Keep an eye on the plenum gasket on that motor. They have a tendency to crack. You'll generally notice a loss in power and burn oil. If you google it, you'll get all kinds of info on how to check to see if it's bad and also check to see if someone has already replaced it.

My 2000 5.9 QC had a weird squeak that turned out to be the u-joint.

As far as the sputtering and screeching...perhaps they are two different issues. Maybe an old belt that slips when it's cold is the screech and the sputtering may just be that it needs a tuneup.

Good luck!

Check your pulleys, if all looks good, and turn smoothly replace belt. bet one of the pulleys is about to seize or ac compressor needs more freon.

The squeaks for bumps and all that are probably from your leaf springs in the rear, you can try a penetrating oil on the moving parts or just grease around the shackle and hanger, it will help a bit but not much.
