Where were you 2 months ago!!!??

Id be interested in purchasing a set, to save for future use (if I ever have to open up my headlights again)

The person I am going through to have them made said that for me to just order 2 clear corners, it would cost me $XX amount just for him to make the 3d model file neeeed to print them, I just have to send him 1 of the amber markers from inside my lights for him to make an exact duplicate, but in a clear version. Then after he makes the 3d model, I have to also pay $XX for 2 of them to be printed. He said to offset the high cost to have all of that done, that I should order a bunch of pairs of the clear corners and resell them to make the money back that I have to pay him to make the 3d file so he can print them and they actually fit like the ones I’m taking out.

Some of you guys are aware that I have a headlight business, so I’m debating if I should order 20 pairs of the clear corners and another 10 pairs of light smoked corners and sell them in my store and on eBay.

If I decide to get a batch made, I will update you guys by posting in this thread but I’m pretty sure the admins will not like me posting stuff like that without being a vendor, which is understandable.

Yeah I figured 3D printing something that doesnt exist would be costly. Pretty much why I didnt really explore that route myself.

I reached out to AlphaRex and they said they cant make clears because of NHTSA rules. Its too bad, really....on my white/chrome truck the amber kinda sticks out. Cleared would have really finished off the good looks of the lights.

Yea they told me that if the lights had clear corners in them, that customs could seize them at the docks when the container is being imported because they don’t meet DOT and NHTSA regulations which I just do not believe because first off, there are THOUSANDS of aftermarket headlights with clear corners in them and company’s wouldn’t keep making them if they kept getting seized by customs every time they imported a shipment. There is such a thing as “For Off-Road Use Only” and if you notice, most aftermarket parts for cars have this printed somewhere in the box or paperwork. I’m not sure if that’s some kind of work around for customs or what but AlphaRex also told me that HID kits, LED bulb kits, etc, can be seized at any time by customs when they come through the port during importing because they are not DOT compliant. Which is odd because who is to say the parts are not being installed in race cars or off road only vehicles. I’m not quite sure I believe this excuse.

I find all of that extremely hard to believe because if that was the case, companies like The Retrofit Source would be getting hammered at the port with seizures, most of their XB headlight lineup has clear corners or smoked lenses, etc, and I doubt they would chance having a container seized with 500 pairs of headlights worth $1,800 each inside, aswell as hundreds of other retrofit parts inside the container, just so their headlights can have clear corners in them. If what the AlphaRex employee told me is true, I feel like TRS would have amber markers in all their lights as there is no way a company that big would chance losing an entire container of products just so their lights can have “cool” clear corners.

But then again, I don’t import aftermarket headlights, but I have been actively looking for a reputable headlight manufacturing factory in China for months now that I can partner with and have them build custom headlights that I design, that will be built exclusively for my business. I am also looking for factory’s that can design and build quality LED bulb kits, and again, I would want to have complete control over the design phase, aswell as what parts are used in the products. I haven’t had much luck finding a factory I can trust with sending tens of thousands of dollars without stepping foot inside the factory and seeing how it operates with my own eyes. I guess I will continue my search.

Yeah the whole DOT/NHTSA excuse didnt sit well with me either, but who am I to question (just a consumer).

OTOH you would figure if it could be done, it would have been by now. There are multiple copies of these lights yet none have clear marker lenses. I know you can buy Klearz for stock projectors but the shape doesnt really come close to matching the AlphaRex lights.

I could have spray tinted them dark but I didnt want dark (chrome bezels, clear lenses for me!) So they remain amber for now.

Also i am having custom clear corners 3d printed for me, so i will most likely be the first person with the Alpha Rex lights with clear corner markers installed.

I would also be interested in a set of clear corners

Be sure to inspect the inside bezels, more specifically the black plastic areas that are in front of / underneath the projectors. The sun hits the projector lens and reflects the suns rays onto the black plastic and it has a “magnifying glass in the sun” effect and causes the plastic to bubble and melt.

Also make sure you try to adjust the projectors, to make sure the adjusters work.

I hope for your sake that they are in mint condition, but I have a feeling there will be some pretty big visual defects with the possibility of physical damage somewhere.

I think with these open box XB lights it will be either A. They will be mint condition lights returned by customer for reasons that arnt related to defects, but were opened so must be sold as “used” or B. These open box lights will have significant scratches and defects in the front lens, aswell as wiring issues and/or projector issues. I’m betting it’s one extreme or the other, all the open box sets are perfect condition or they are in really rough shape. I hope for your sake it’s the former.

They honestly aren't that bad. No scratches at all. All the wiring is goo and intact. The issue was just as described. Broken adjusters. Not a big deal tbh. Take them apart and fix it. Boom I saved $750.

Mine are on delivery for today as well. Hoping its the same as yours or a broken tab since I have a few ram headlights laying around I can just cut off the tab and jb weld new one on lol. Won't be hard to open it up if needed being I have now opened up 3 sets of Ram stock headlights with permaseal to do retrofits.

My guess is they used retrorubber aka butyl

https://www.theretrofitsource.com/morimoto-retrorubber-butyl-glue-52001.html

Top open them just heat it up good and should just peel apart once the temp is up around 150 or so... if you don't have any you might want to order some or see if you can pick something up locally similar. I would suggest using this and not something more permanent in case you ever need to open them up again.

Most of the time you can get away with using the old butyl but sometimes its better to scrape out the channel and lay down a new bead. Just warm the headlight back up with the front cover off with the butyl in the channel to make it gooey and then put the cover back on and sandwich it down good. I like to use a towel with a few ratchet straps to really squeeze it tight. I would suggest let it sitting for at least a few hours like that or even over night and you should be all set.

Are both your adjusters broken or only one? Wondering if they sorted these out and put problem childs together or kept it as a pair if it was only 1 side had an issue.

One popped open... just a heads up there are two screws on the backside that hold the entire fron assembly in place you need to take out plus one wire you need to disconnect. I suggest going from the top inside since thats where the wire is located. The two screws are in addition to the two on the side that screw i to the back housing.

Wow the chances of melting the lens or housing has got to be extremely high. I would never put a set of headlights that expensive in a grille wit an open flame: [emoji2962]

Naw its a high end grill with perfect temp control and only had the side on not over direct heat plus off the slabs. These dont fit in the double wall oven too deep and the 4th set of lights I have done in it with no issues. These are literally simple compared to the permaseal of oems.
