Here is my honest opinion on BDS, RC, and Zone and I ran these guys and installed tons of them in my shop.
DISCLAIMER: I only buy 2500s the last 1500 I had was an 2006. I have only installed a handful of them on 1500s most are 2500s for some reason.
I AM NO WAY AFFILIATED WITH ANY LIFT KIT BRAND OR GETTING MONEY FROM THIS lol. I am using public prices but some things I have access to that you guys don't.
I have built completely custom suspensions and have an idea on what im doing.
I'll cover the major questions I get.
Q: What is the best lift kit out of the box?
A: BDS
Q: What is a good budget lift out of the box?
A: For a non offroader RC
For a moderate offroader Zone
Q:What is the cheapest way to get a lift that is excellent on road and off?
A: RC with different shocks and depending on your situation some different brackets. It will easily outperform BDS, Zone, or any other brand for far less money.
Q: Is RC good quality?
A: Absolutely, some applications there shocks aren't the greatest and on the 1500s I do not like how they use spacers. But you can get lift coils and coilovers for pretty cheap, which makes it cheaper than any other brand. Not to mention they have a lifetime warranty.
Q: What would be your ideal suspension?
A: 2500 4 link up front and rear with long shocks without heims as they suck on road for most people. I will usually only use them on dedicated trail rigs. If you tow Airbags with Daystar cradles so it doesn't interfere with flexing.
1500 Same as the 2500 but with a long travel system in the front (just did one on a 15 1500 with a high clearance front bumper and it will beat the raptor)
I personally would use most of an RC lift with custom things added and it would be the best overall kit for a little bit of money.
If you guys have any questions please comment or if you think I missed anything.
EDIT: Please stay away from spacers. The are some good ones for a 2500 but they ideally make a rough ride and can cause premature failure on some parts.
