I ask because I saw one on ebay for $499. Cheaper than the Tesla radio. Just wondering if anyone had tried it

It would take a custom new dash piece to fit, but at 499, seems way too good of deal, I would be sceptical on that listing. If even it is a real listing, not sure about canbus it has compatability etc, so many variables. I'd be trying one if it was a go.

It was posted somewhere on here someone had an 8.4 out of a Gen 5. There is major wiring difference between the two. The rear view camera is wired differently along with the steering wheel controls.
Also I’ve seen some pictures and by the looks of it the harness itself are not the same at all with the 4th Gen harness. That’s a big bag a worms to open up lol. You will possibly need new conversion harness made along with figuring out features etc and how it’s control by the radio with the multiple connectors on the back of an 8.4 compared to the 12” u connect 1 connector.

It’s not $500 good IMO, you’ll be much happier with a custom budget setup.
