I wanted to get some input on painting chrome. I have been painting my step bars for sometime now, and they have been “ok”. I do get chips here and there often and have to touch up which is a pain.
I’m wondering if there is some type of products that anyone has used or heard of for painting chrome that will stand up. I did use Bedliner in the past, however it chipped way more and in big chunks.

Just thought I’d get some
Info as the forum is loaded with knowledge!

Thanks.

You need to strip the chrome off and use some good primer. The chrome doesn't give the paint much to adhere to.
If you really want it to last, have them powder coated. They will have to sandblast them before doing the powder coat.

Just a bead blast to rough up, not remove, the chrome, and an “etching” primer that bites into the chrome ... Paint as usual ... I’ve seen it done twice ... Works great ... Just find a good shop that is familiar with the process

I have stripped the chrome Off and used self etching primer and still peels, chips.
I was thinking of just powder coating them.

Thanks guys!

IIRC, powdercoat still wont stick to chrome and have to be stripped off. That has stopped me, I HATE CHROME!. Around here it would be cheaper to buy a replacement black bumper and go from there.
