Greeting,

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the ICON rear coil springs – 1.5” lift. I’m currently running a bilsteins 6112 set at 2.1 in the front, the reason I’m looking at the coils is to tow a small 2500lbs trailer and don’t want the ass to sag when loaded. So I’m cross between the Icon Rear Coils and or just some airbags. I tow maybe 2 time a year. Other than that just around town and some mountain driving.
Any input is welcome..

Found my answer sorry for not searching first...Look like the Icon are well worth the money..

The Icons have more pressure rate compared to stock (75%) but only on their 2nd rate, meaning you'll have to put weight on them to reach that stage. they're 25% softer on the 1st rate, i don't know how much weight it takes to reach that 2nd stage. on stock crew cab weight you will be about 1 1/4 higher in the back
BruiserRAM has a great weight review here as he took the time to load and measure his rear sag up to 1000lbs so you get a better idea.

In summary

SQUAT:

@ 200#: - 3/8
@ 400#: - 3/4
@ 600#: - 1 1/8
@ 800#: - 1 1/2
@ 1000#: - 1 3/4

Hope it helps.

Icon has a goor rep, but the springs by tuftruck are also a good choice for what you’re looking for. They have several divers models to suit your needs.

I know the voices in my head aren’t real, but man, do they ever come up with some great ideas

IMO I feel for the 2 times a year you will tow you should enjoy the better ride and lift of the ICON coils for the rest of the year.

Let us know if we can help and get you set up, just shoot me a message for a quote and info

To me, it all depends on if you like a level truck or not.

If you like the truck level, then simply add bags for the couple times a year you tow.

If you like the factory rake, then get the lift springs.

Thank you all for your input on this, look like either direction is a winner just one is more expensive that the other, and like what olyelr says how do I like the rake. That’s what is kind of a kick in the balls I love the leveled look with the bilsteins 6112 set at 2.1 if I raise front to much then I more than likely need new USC. Just not sure how much 1 ½ high difference would be in the ass end if I do the coils. And leave the front to 2.1

Icons won't give you 1.5" exactly. they'll settle down to about 1-1 1/4"
This was Rancho QL's front (2") with the Icon 1.5" springs in the back
Not a lot of rear rake if you're worried about that, but better weight management when loaded compared to stock for sure.

To get a real good idea of how it will look, simply jack the back of the truck up 1.25-1.5” and stand back and look... if you dont like that look, I would go the airbag route. Then you always have the level truck when not towing, and when towing just pump the bags up and get it back to level.

Thank you all for your input, photos and ideas, I pulled the trigger on Friday and had the Icon springs installed. Not sure if I did the image stuff right but you can see one is level and the other right after the springs were installed.
So as for ride..Right now is seem about the same maybe a bit stiffer in the a$$ but the real test will be when I hook up the 2300lbs rental travel trailer and see if it sits better. I have no idea how to do the posting of the photos like above but ill take any pointers you maybe have =)

Came out pretty good. Post some pics once you load that trailer up. Try to take a couple in the back in the bumpstop area and the gap between the hitting pad.

Does she feels any different under weight now ?
A good addition to your new springs or your choice of longer links.
Teraflex Rear Sway bar links

Also the rear Hellwig 7709 bar is another good addition, the Teraflex links with the parts i picked from Lowes will work with the hellwig without any issues, all plug and play.

So after all is said in done I did sage just a bit in the back end and when going over speed bumps it seem to sway front to back (Kind of strange) not sure if that was the springs or not. But going up and down I-70 at time it would make you a$$hole pucker right up. So I guess I thought it would be a bit firmer (less bounce) but its was not bad.

So about the Teraflex Rear Sway bar links will that help with handling? Or?

The links will restore the angle of the bar to a more neutral state. the TF ones are cheap at $70 i think but you can run any sway bar link of your choice. I don't think 1" up in the sway bar will cause the bounce, but i believe in the need to mimic what the factory did to the best of our ablities. Your springs are softy like the stockers without load but heavier under load. Coil springs only support load they're not in charge of dampening. Your 5100's should be enough to handle the trailer weight, so sure you can start with the links as they're cheap, then you have some measurements to do with and without the trailer to make sure tongue weight and weight placement is optimal.

https://www.ram1500diesel.com/forum...7-hitching-air-suspension-trailer-bounce.html

Also lots of people swear by the Hellwig sway bar under load, i wasn't a believer until i changed mine. the factory sway bar is probably lighter than your local yellow pages haha, the Hellwig in constrat feels more like a part you want back there to support the 10k lbs FCA says these trucks can tow.
If you get one you can go straight to the 2nd hole. A firmer sway bar will act like giving the springs more pressure rate too.

You also have blue summo springs SSR-307-40 that can help keep things under control when loaded SSR-307-40, you may also need a weight distribution hitch and you can also upgrade to better shocks front and rear.

But before you spend more money on this check the links above and make sure first your trailer hitch and weight are all playing together nicely.

Good luck.
