My hopes of finding a reasonably price set of 4th Gen seats is fading fast.

I want to replace my front 3rd Gen bench with two buckets and a central console.

I see a lot of 3rd Gen bucket seats on the market.

How different are the 3rd Gen buckets from the 4th Gen?

From some pictures I’ve seen it looks like the 3rd Gen are just bench seats and the 4th have lumbar support.

Thanks

Kinda right, they do have a modest appearance of bucket to them in their shape and mine have lumbar support too, but definitely not in their comfort, they'll kill your back on a long trip. I'd go with true aftermarket buckets if I were you, that's what I'll be upgrading to eventually.

What about the rear bench seats are they pretty similar between a Gen 3 and Gen 4?

Depends on the trim level of the truck. 3rd gen seats tend to be flat except for the SRT seats (very comfy and hug you well). 4th gen seats seem to be a mix of flat or similar to SRT seats. I swapped my 3rd gen seats (flat cloth) for 4th gens (bolstered cloth/leather combo). Much more comfy. Give this a read: https://www.ramforum.com/threads/big-red-over-time-pic-heavy.17732/page-3

Very nice truck.

Unfortunately a number of pictures are no longer available.

I did not know that an overhead console was available. Do you have a picture of it?

When you switched from having a shifter on the steering column to the center console what did you do with the gap in the steering column?

You need to go to the bottom and on to the next page, which is why I started you out on page 3 lol

Hi

While searching a couple of online sites they refer to 4th Gen bucket seats as having air bags.

I’m guessing they’re built into the side of the seat. If installed into a 3rd Gen the air bags are inoperative, correct?

Thanks

Hi

I’m going on a long road trip next week and I’ll be passing a number of scrap yards which I wouldn’t normally visit.

A bunch have 4th Gen seats available. I’m likely going to have to put seat covers on them because I won’t find a matching color.

My question is about going from front bench seat to bucket seats.

1. Are all Gen 4’s seats direct bolt ins?

2. Any center console setups I should avoid? For example I’ve seen a few photos where the gear selector is a dial on the center console.

I’m really just looking for better seats without a crazy amount of work.

Appreciate the advice.

Alex

1. This question has been answered ad nauseum, but....yes, 4th gen seats are a physical bolt in, you just have to sort the wiring (did you look through the rest of my build thread?) and swap your original seat belt buckle on to the newer frame (4th gen seat belts are different size).

2. That particular case, the gear selector dial is not on the console, it's on the dash.

If you want newer seats without a crazy amount of work, find a 4th gen set that has the jump seat. It doesn't sound like you want to take on an actual console install (this will require modification and actual work) so that would probably be your best bet, something like this:

There is no easy console; later 3rd gen (06-08) console is easier than a 4th gen retrofit, but still not a bolt in (dashes are different enough)

Thanks

I didn’t want to ask the same question but whatever l pick up i can’t return.

I didn’t want to find out that fit s particulate year and trip the seats did not fit.

I guess as long as I stick with a fourth gen seat with a simple jump seat I’m good.

Just absolutely make sure you get them as a set, the seat frames aren't the same between a console truck and a jump seat truck.

Ok I found a set off a 2015 but the center console is the one with a shift knob not a jump seat.

Can I do the following: use the two 2015 Laramie seats (very comfortable) with my current gen 3 jump seat?

I know I’d have to reupholster my jump seat to match the new 2015?seats.

Just trying to make something work because I think I can get the seats really cheap.

Those look awful, I hope it's just the camera or that they're dirty....no you can't use your 3rd gen jump seat with those because your jump seat mounts to your seat frames (you really need to take a look under there). Those particular 4th gen seats don't have that capability. If you look closely at the pic, you can see the supports coming from the bottoms of the seats for the jump seat. The seats you found are strictly for console. You can still mount the console (if you're willing to cut up your dash lol) and get the empty insert (stop obsessing about the knob, the knob is on the dashboard itself).

Knob:

Empty insert so you don't have to change the shifter, there's a couple different versions:

I put 4th gen Laramie seats in my 05. Direct bolt in. At least the front anyway. I got a leather back seat from a wrecked 3rd gen
