I have a 2019 Bighorn Crew, 6.3ft Bed (153" wheel base) Hemi 4x4 with 3.92 gears and the tow package. According to the ram website, my tow rating is 11,240 and payload is 1,780. I don't have airbags but I will be putting them on my truck if I buy a trailer. This is my second RAM truck and I love it. I recently got a Kawasaki Teryx4 and now my wife and I want a toy hauler to accompany it. The Teryx4 wet weight is 1,640. What is the biggest dry weight trailer I can get to comfortably tow behind my 1500?

I have a double axle flatbed now but my wife refuses to do the tent camping UTV only rig.

your going to get an onslot of "you should buy a 2500" comments...and the "lawyers will sue you for everything" by the people that are just repeating what they read on the internet.
Toyhaulers at usually nose heavy, especially unloaded. If you start with about 7K trailer, that put you at just shy of 9K with your UTV loaded. Don't let the wife pack everything including the kitchen sink(LOL) and you can probably keep the trailer in the 10K range.
You'll have to watch how the WDH is set up and how everything is loaded but it's doable. A trailer like that can own you real quick if your not paying attention, even if you did have a 2500.
You'll definitely want a good WDH and preferably a set of axle to frame airbags like Airlift 5000s or Timber Groves. You may want to consider a set of XL, D or E load tires for added piece of mind.

If your camping "trips" are a hundred miles..... Who cares.... If they are much longer then you could have bought a 2500 Gasser by the time you buy all the stuff crash68 is telling you to do.

So your saying a 2500 identical to what the OP has now would have cost him an extra $1500?? interesting
Either truck with that load will need a WDH so that cost is a push. If you think a 2500 doesn't need a WDH your badly mistaken. There is a good probability if the OP buys a new trailer that the dealer will include the WDH.

I'm fine with a small toy hauler. I dont need a huge trailer. It's just my wife, 3 year old daughter and I. The closest camping destination we would take it to is an hour and a half away. I looked at buying the 4th Gen 2500 6.4l Hemi but the tow rating was really close between the two. Payload was a different story.

OK, so he pays $5000 for the Gasser 2500 (base Longhorn 4X4) but goes from 11,000 towing to 19,000. I know nothing about a WDH. I've been towing junk around for 40 years without one but I'm not a camper. I haul boats and cars. I've towed with half tons to dually one tons. Also towed 53 ft trailers with a Freightliner

I'm not buying a 2500. And the 2500 max towing gas engine was 12,800.

I'll repost my original post to try to keep things on topic here as a reminder for why I'm seeking advice on this forum.

Check out ATC. All aluminum and built to last. I don't know if the garage dimensions would accomodate your SxS. The 28' front bedroom would be a stretch for a 1500.

Once he adds stuff and Teryx to the trailer he’ll probably be pushing over 1000lbs of tongue weight leaving him only 600lbs for the truck. Add driver, passenger and the usual truck cargo and you’ve got a maxed out truck towing a heavy sail. He will need all the extra towing helper farkles for the truck. It can be done but it’ll be a slow, heavy, 7-8mpg tow.

You do realize that trailer has 7800 lbs GVWR? How do you figure the truck is going to be "maxed out" or slow? It's not like he's towing this with a Ram 50. If anything you'll have to watch for not having enough tongue weight with the format of trailer as the Teryx4 is loaded behind the axles.
This trailer when loaded properly will be close to the ratings of his truck but can be comfortably towed behind his 1500.

The trucks cargo capacity is 1780. That will include tongue weight, people and all the things that will go along with camping and off-roading. It doesn’t take much to get there. Fully loaded trucks handle very differently especially with a sail behind you.

I think you said earlier that your numbers were from the website so be sure to check the door sticker as the website was off by more than 400# on the cargo max for my laramie compared to the door jamb sticker. I only have 1324# to deal with so have to pack light. as for pulling, the truck will pull much heavier trailers than I have the cargo capacity to hook up.

I use my ram to tow our 26' whitehawk TT, its 6300 dry and had a hitch weight of 690lbs. My ram has a 3.92 gear and it seems to pull very well. But like the others said, My WDH does wonders to keep the weight off the back of the truck. I still get about 2" of squat but without it, its bad. I use the blue ox sway pro setup. You should be able to safely go with a 6500-7000lbs dry weight as long as the tongue weight is 800-900lbs or less, once you add some stuff or gear to your toy hauler / TT, the tongue weight will go up which in my opinion is the determining factor.

I have a Jayco 222 toy hauler. MAX GVW for the Jayco is 8000 pounds with 750 pound tongue weight. We went from a 2500 HD Chevy gasser to the 2019 Bighorn with 3.92 and eTorque. I have a WDH with bars, not chains. I took it for a test pull this past weekend, with our Polaris RZR 900 EPS. Since it is just the wife, myself and three dogs, it was just fine. No issues at all.

I went the I have to buy a 2500 route, and unless you are towing all the time, and carting a ton of $hit with you all the time, the reduced gas mileage (when not towing) and increased insurance costs, it was not worth it.
