So I bought some RBG running boards from a guy who had them on a 2013 ram. When we tried to bolt them on, we discovered that my 2019 tradesman classic does have anywhere to bolt them. On both sides there is only 2 holes with threads to screw. It is also 2 more sets of holes but they appear to be empty space behind them.

Sorry if this sounds confusing... but is this normal? Do I have to weld them? Thanks for any help!

no. you need hardware like nutserts or bars with built in nuts or bolts that come with running board kits to mount to those holes if they don't have threads. seems lately a lot of people posting about buying used bars and finding out they need hardware that's not readily available, sadly.

So you recommend just buying brand new? I paid 200 bucks for these, and it seemed like a good deal at first!

Seems like you could contact the running board manufacturer / vendor to buy the hardware needed.

Check with a shop that sells / installs running boards / after market stuff.

I'll bet the hardware is available and inexpensive.

Look up on eBay and buy the running board mounting hardware. That’s what I had to do

i agree with the posts that followed. IF you can get the right hardware and if you know the brand of boards. not all hardware is the same. and you can't just fudge it off the shelf of a hardware store. at least in canada, i've never seen the nutserts and bars with a nut on one end and bolt on the other in any hardware store. if you have a local offroad store, you might get lucky and find they have hardware kits or spare parts kicking around (if you can't find what you need on ebay).

myself, i wouldn't have bought used boards without hardware. i wouldn't want the hassle of trying to find the rest of the pieces. also, have you lined up the brackets to see if the 2013 boards would fit on a 2019? some won't. i've seen pics of a 2019 ram mounting and it looked a lot different than my 2018.
