Why are there so few 6’4 long beds out there?

Crew cab with the 6.4 is just too long for me in most instances, I have a hard time finding a spot to park with the 5.7 bed.

If I need a bit longer bed, though it is rare since a few inches hanging off of the end of the tailgate isn't that big of a deal, I made an extension that goes into the hitch and extends the bed.

They hold up incredibly well, truth be told. Just out of principle, I'd go over it with a fine-toothed comb only because it's 5 years old, and then I'd hit the maintenance schedule (in the owner's manual) to do everything they recommend for your truck's age and mileage. But I'd do that no matter what brand was on the side. :)

PS: Lots of us here in Oregon - welcome!

Good advice. I will go over everything closely. Picture is just north of Pacific City.

D'oh! The other Haystack Rock!

(I should drag the missus down there before the rainy season gets here...)

No worries on the truck, though - I bought used myself, and day after tomorrow it goes into the dealer to get the full work-over and fluids change (everything recommended for the 30k mile mark) before the nose-to-tail warranty runs out.

Thank You, Sir!

ANything less than 8ft is a SHORT BED.

Reason 5'7" is so popular has to do with average garage depth. Crw Cab with 6'4" box is almost 22 ft. in a 24ft garage, that.s tight with hardly any getting around it without dragging your WIfe;s coat in WIner ROad Grime Room.

Great discussion guys. Thanks!

Some great looking trucks on this thread.

And yes I don’t have the true “long” bed!

A truck of that length would be an absolute nightmare to park and maneuver in most places in south Florida lol

I miss trucks having an 8 foot bed could slide a sheet of plywood/Sheetrock in and close the gate. Or when I pick up a 10ft bundle of EMT, or PVC to do stuff around my house it only hung over 2 foot no big deal. I have the 6’4” and the gate has to stay down giving me a full 8. But it’s hard to strap down and I have to use flags. 4’ over in TX requires a red/ orange flag. Dad has a 99 I think 2500 with an 8 foot bed it’s better for hauling a goose neck trailer no chance of crushing the tail gate.

I’m lucky that the 6’4 fits well in the parking garage at work. My shop at home is 36x40 so it fits fine in there 14’ height.

2018 CC with the 6.4 bed and ramboxes here. I had a 2012 CC with the 5.7 bed with ramboxes prior and really wanted the larger bed. It’s worth it if you use the bed on a regular basis for pretty much anything IME. I’ve got the standard rambox bed extender and use it quite frequently to carry larger items with the tailgate down.

Coming from a 4 door Gen1 Tundra with 4 full sized doors and a 6 foot bed, my requirements when shopping for a new truck was pretty simple. I again wanted 4 full size doors and a regular length bed (6'ish). If I went with a new Tundra, I'd have to choose - doors or bed, but not both.

I found what I was looking for in the Ram 1500 that gave me the body and cab configuration that I wanted and that had the other must-haves on my list (limited slip dif, 3.92 gears).

Congrats, and yeah I like the 6.4 bed as well. I came out of a Tacoma, and man night and day difference.

My 3500 cc short box fit fine in the garage so I knew the 1500 cc 6'4" box would fit too since it's the same length. With it being a late addition to the 4th gen line up a surprising number of people aren't aware of their existence.

Mine is a 6'4". I found a few in Austin but wanted blue so I had to order. Still got a great deal luckily. I use my bed all the time and would have issues with a smaller bed. I think the new gen looks goofy as he'll with that big ass cab and little bed.

Add another foot + for the mega cab and you can really enjoy the longer turning radius. When I'm pulling the boat I have to be conscious of just about every corner.
