This thread is designed to provide hands on feedback and information to the forum regarding the Joying 10.1" Android head unit. I am not sponsored nor have any relation to any brands, companies, or sellers. All of the information in this thread is for educational purposes only and I will not be held responsible for any damages or issues should you decide to follow any of the information in this thread.

After trying three different Tesla style Android radios and all three having different hardware issue I went looking for an alternative radio. I ended up going with the Joying 10.1" Android head unit. Below is a list of the items you will need to purchase for installing the 10.1" Joying head unit. I wouldn't go with anything larger than a 10.1" horizontal screen or you will block your vents. I installed this in my 2013 Ram Express with no steering wheel controls or backup camera. I did list additional details for the steering wheel control interface but I haven't verified it works. You will have to use butt connectors or solder and heat shrink to connect the head unit harness to the Metra wiring harness. You will also have to cut out the bottom piece of the factory mounting bracket to fit the double din unit. It is not difficult just be aware this is not as plug and play as the Tesla style radios.

Head unit:
JOYING 10.1 Double Din Android 8.1 4GB + 64GB Car Stereo Built-in DSP LCD Touchscreen with 4G SIM Card Slot & 1280×720P Resolution
From <https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S8VXJZB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1>

Note: I purchased model USA-JY-UO134N4GS-H. The model that starts with US has different connections. Instead of the USB and Mic cables sticking out there are USB and Mic ports. Also uses a 10A fuse instead of the 15A in the 'USA' model. I cannot comment on the quality of these units. Amazon will link you to the 'US' version if the 'USA' version is unavailable. Look at the 'Color' for the specific model number.

Mounting Kit: (1of3 Required)
  1. 2013 - Up Ram 1500/2500/3500 Double-din Mount Kit w/o touchscreen

    From <https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DRH7CG8/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_fEsCDb2D06G9R>

  2. 2013 - Up Ram 1500/2500/3500 Single-din Mount Kit w/o touchscreen
    Metra 99-6518b
    From <https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DRH79RK/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_90sCDb964DGBZ>

  3. 2013-Up Ram 1500 pickups with the factory 8" monitor — single or double-DIN radios
    Scosche CR1297DDB Dash Kit
    From <https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C37AQ7Y/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_.-sCDbQQJQ8WC>

Note: Don't use the flat head screws that come with the head unit they can crack the mount. Use slightly longer round head machine screws of the same size. I believe I used these screws: #10-24 x 1/2 in. Combo Pan Head Zinc Plated Machine Screw.

Wiring harnesses and adapters:
Metra XSVI-6523-NAV XSVI Interface Dodge 13-UP (Required)
From <https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DSQBQ7E/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1>

Note: If you don't have steering wheel controls there is a cheaper one. This one is prewired for Steering wheel adapter ASWC-1. I don't have controls now but I may add them later.

Metra Axxess ASWC-1 Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface (Required/Optional - If you have steering wheel controls this is required)
From <https://www.amazon.com/Axxess-ASWC-1-Universal-Steering-Interface/dp/B00B4PJC9K/ref=sr_1_1?crid=ANUNE8FER0OW&keywords=aswc-1&qid=1567518165&s=electronics&sprefix=aswc,tools,139&sr=1-1>

From <https://www.amazon.com/Metra-40-EU5...GRZE5CM3XK4&psc=1&refRID=FSZ4Z82SVGRZE5CM3XK4>

Optional center console USB adapters:
  1. I used this adapter to maintain the USB in the center console. I read the ports were changed for 2014 on so this may only work on the 2013)
Metra AX-USB-MINIB USB to MINI B Adaptor Cable (Optional)
    From <https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I2ZIRVE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1>

Note: I have only gotten the center console USB port to work when I plug the adapter into the USB cable marked 'USB 2.0'. I believe it would be the bottom port on the 'US' model radio.

  2. USB adapter kit to change out the ports in the center console. (I have not tried this so I cannot say if it works with Joying head unit)
Maestro Acc-USB-RAM Media Hub USB Port Adapter Kit
    From <https://www.amazon.com/Maestro-Acc-...C-USB-RAM&qid=1567518736&s=electronics&sr=1-1>

Optional OBDII Scanner for included Torque app:

ELM327 - Mestart Enhanced Version Bluetooth OBDII Car Scanner (Optional)
From <https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MAURDGG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1>

Optional OBDII Extension cables (In case you are worried about hitting the OBDII device with your leg or foot)
  1. Single extension cable for ELM327.
iKKEGOL OBDII 16 Pin Male to Female Extension Cable Car Diagnostic Extender Cord Adapter (Optional)
    From <https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L4207IS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1>

  2. I have T-mobile SyncUp Drive for wifi and the ELM327 so I went with this extension cable.
bbfly-B4 OBD II OBD2 16 Pin Splitter Extension 1 x Male and 2 x Female Extension Cable Adapter (Optional)
    From <https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071HP9JFJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1>

Optional Launchers you can download from Play Store (Joying's default launcher is terrible IMO)
  1. Car Launcher AGAMA - I am currently using this launcher. Minimal customization options compared to others but the Launcher just works and is easy to set up.
  2. CarWebGuru - Worked great with the T-style units but couldn't get it to work well with Joying radio.
  3. Car Launcher Pro - Very popular option. I haven't tried this one yet but I know some use this launcher on the T-style units.

Note: Be careful not to install the face of the mounting kit upside down or the head unit will be mounted to low.

Note: Use the included clip extension brackets for the back of the screen or the screen won't clip in.

The only other brand I tried prior to the Joying was an Eonon 10.1 Double Din Car Stereo. I would advise against this brand as their screens are not good quality.

Eonon 10.1 unit screen peels off and no it's not a factory installed screen protector. lol

Great write-up...I forgot to ask before, but is the screen adjustable at all? Does it tilt towards driver or passenger?

Thank you sir! Just paying it forward ;). The screen can be adjusted up and down but you have to unmount the head unit to get to the screws. It is not adjustable side to side. I original looked for one that was adjustable, like the Eonon, but was worried about the durability. Plus the unit will be sticking even further out from the dash. See the image below for measurement on the Eonon unit.

I wonder if one were to use an 8.4 bezel with this if the bezel audio/radio controls would work?

I don't see why not. The head unit is actually cheaper but you only get 2GB RAM/32GB ROM in the single din 10.1 units available on Amazon. You also lose the built in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. They replaced it with a screen mirroring app in this version. Plus the quick buttons on the side are replaced with the volume slider. You can find the same screen I have on Joying's website but then you are paying close to the same price as the double din version. See above for the mounting kit you would need instead of the one listed originally. I have edited my original post to include the single din mounting kit and the correct mounting kit for Rams with touch screens.

That is a very interesting question. I too wonder if the dials would work on an aftermarket radio. I did notice there are different mounting kits for the touchscreen radios that come with a completely new bezel. Seems a bit overkill. I think if someone wasn't worried about the look with the screen removed you could get away with just using the brackets and the original bezel. Once the screen is attached you wouldn't even notice. I updated my original post to include the different mounting kits if you want to see what I am talking about.

I have updated the original post to include the specific model number I have that begins with 'USA' as it is in and out of stock all the time on Amazon. You can read the note under the head unit listing to see the difference between the two versions offered. I have also added a note under the usb adapter to specify the specific usb port to use on the radio for the center console to work.

I am surprised my wife hasn't killed me yet. I ordered the 1280x720 version of the radio I had installed. If you are keeping count that is 3 tesla style radios and 3 joying radios, lol. The first joying was sent as new but was a used PX5 version not Intel. The second one worked great but I was curious about the 1280x720 version. I was hoping I could just swap out the screen and change the resolution so I didn't have to uninstall but I couldn't. I thought about not even bothering since they are the same radio but with a better screen. The screen was brighter and crisper but the real magic happened when I but on my sunglasses. I COULD SEE THE SCREEN FROM ALL ANGLES!!! Now if you are not familiar with the tesla style radios or the non hd version of Joying if you wear polarized sunglasses the screen is black from the driver seat. You have to be directly in front of the radio to see it. Needless to say I ripped out the old radio and installed the new HD version. This is now by far the best radio I have ever owned! The screen is now crisp and clear from all angles with or without sunglasses and the sound is amazing compared to the factory and tesla style radios. I can actually feel the base from my factory speakers and it sounds clean too. :)

That's great to hear! A nice bright screen is a huge benefit for a truck with a sunroof (like mine)...

I may end up getting this when my Amazon rewards build back up...

Sadly, this is why i never ware my sunglasses in my truck! Kind of annoying....
