When I finally aligned and tested my retrofit build, I used AlfaOBD app, changed the setting to High Intensity Discharge for the headlights, and also set the high beam to LED (I have a Profile Hi-Lens LED projector there) and haven't had any issues. Changing the setting to HID in AlfaOBD eliminates the pulse width modulation.
I have a DDM kit with their Ultra Canbus relay system on my 2014 with the stock projectors. It works, but the HIDs in the low beams have disappointing output. The LEDs in the high beams are great.

Are there any settings in the AlfaOBD app that would help me in terms of light output for my DDM HIDs? What exactly does the HID setting do, just turn off the PWM? I’m assuming this app would not offer any increased output from an aftermarket HID system that is working, but thought it was worth asking.

I have the 35W in 6K color and they have a bluish tint and disappointing output. I assume it could be partly due to the factory projectors. I don’t think they are brighter than the factory halogens.

I was told the glass in the factory projectors have a blue cast to them in my model year (2014). Cheap way for Ram to make it look like they have stock HIDs when they don’t. I’m not sure if that’s true or not, and I’m not sure if that would affect light output.

oh heck yes, my morning drive was excellent. Add some LED bulbs to the high beam and you can light the road up when needed

*raises hand...

So, umm, only that monster $1600 Morimoto kit I keep seeing online is compatible with a Ram CANBUS? Or am I reading that totally wrong?

$1600 Morimoto relay Kit!?!?

I build ram lights all day long. Best bet is to buy a Bluetooth OBD Device (MX+ is best) and then purchase the AlphaOBD App. Total will be about $120. Cheaper then the Morimoto Relay and in the end, you won’t have tons of wiring and relays and crap that can fail over time.

Also with AlohaOBD you can change hundreds upon hundreds of other settings with these trucks and also if you want to upgrade anything on your truck to a higher trim version (like heated seats) you can use AlphaOBD to do that in a matter of seconds whereas a dealer would charge you $140-$170 just to activate the heated seats.

AlphaOBD pays for itself after one or 2 uses.

Blue tint to the projector lenses will absolutely not affect the output as the NHK line of Projectors are all tinted blue and they are some of the best aftermarket Projectors on the market.

I’m talking about my factory projectors having a blue tint. Are you saying NHK makes the factory projectors on these Rams?

Agreed, which is why I bought a OBDLink MX+ fob. ;)

Yea I know you are talking about the factory oem Ram Projectors. What I am saying is that blue tint, added to any projector lens, will not decrease light output. I was referencing the NHK G line of aftermarket Projectors as an example of a very popular and highly rated projector that has very blue tint to the projector lens and it is not an issue.

Let me clarify, when the projector lens is tinted blue by the manufacturer, it does not affect light output. If you decide to somehow tint a projector lens with some sort of blue tint or whatever, it will absolutely mess up light output and most likely the tint would catch on fire lol.

As for factory tinted lenses, no they are fine. There is even upgradable lenses for a lot of Projectors that are black, aka the “Black Series” of lens upgrades and they do not affect light output either.

From what I gather it just stops PWM.

35W in 6K color and they have a bluish tint

I would look into 4500-5500k bulbs as they will be closer to a white color vs. the blue hue you see. Also check to see if you can get bulbs rated for 50w and replace them and try a 50w ballast.

I' m running Morimoto XB D2S bulbs that are 5800k with 50w ballasts. They are white in color to my eye with a blue color along the cut off.
