I just mounted a light bar behind a new aftermarket grill, came out nice. Looks fine, and works awesome! The light bar was $40 on Amazon, the grill was $110. WELL worth the upgrade for backwoods, off-road driving....

Here is what it looks like with normal headlights:

Same spot, with the LED light bar on:

I want to get some pods and mount them on top of my camper for work lights. I'm thinking on the back and sides. Anyone hear of black oak lighting? I'm looking at them, rough country, or may spring for baja designs because they are so small but will be twice as expensive.

I want something with a real wide flood.

"greatwhitegoat", these are not mounted to the underside of the bumper, I have them mounted to the class 4 trailer hitch with roll cage light mounts that work perfectly. I got them from amazon,

WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE SWITCHES? Can they be added to the top switch cluster you think? Do they need to be dealer activated? If you have a part number that would be amazing. I want a clean look for LED or other Add-ons, these would be perfect. - Thanks

I dont know where MikeBrew got his, he said for a 2500. I am using a setup from 4th gen electronics in my 17 1500. Very clean and works great!!

Do you have photos on how you mounted the two spots next to your tow hitch? I've been contemplating the same idea to provide better rear lighting. Thanks in advance
Yup. I made some 90 degree brackets out of 3/16” steel. Drilled and tapped so the front by the hitch receiver I screw in a ARP stainless bolt. The pods are mounted on the L side and a simple hole drilled with the supplied bolt/washer and nut. When I made them I drilled a few holes front to back so I could adjust the depth of the lights to my liking. The brackets are the same width of hitch so they don’t move in the hitch. They basically box off the hitch side opening so u can’t really get any good pics.

I had lights under my bumper on my last truck similar to this, they worked great, BUT, they did not last long. I think I replaced them 3 times over 2 or 3 years before I gave up on them. Backing up into a snow drift, brush, a high curb or parking block in a parking lot... would all kill them.

They sit a little higher than the bottom of the hitch safety chain plates. They shouldn’t be able to bottom out and they are like 32” off the ground lol... that’s one heck of a high curb to hit them lol. Mine have been on for about a year with no issues. Being a single chip style 1k lumens each I went for a better brand (superbrightleds) and they have a lifetime warranty so if they burn out or leak I get free replacements. But like I’ve said they are solid and a year old.
What’s cool is they are also modular, so they come with tabs you can insert and lock multiples together in all 4 directions. Basically you could create a light bar with them all in a row.

HOW are they under your bumper, and yet 32” off the ground?? Seriously, go measure it, it’s closer to 12 or 14” at best. Snow banks in parking lots tend to be 5 or 6 FEET high, so it doesn’t matter if it’s 12” or 20”, your going to back into the snow, and smash them, trust me. You know, it just snowed, and they just plowed the parking lot, there is not much room so you back up as much as you can so your not sticking out, it will happen. Unless your in Floriduh or TX, that’s another story. As far as curbs, I’ve hit lots of them, your on a slight incline, there is one of those tire stops (triangular shaped cement thing across the end of the parking spot), and because of the incline the way your truck backs up to it, it ends up scraping the lights under the bumper. Or just a high curb where there is a drain or something.... TRUST ME, I replaced mine 3 times in less than 3 years on my F150 which was higher off the ground than my 1500. I also had BIG tires on my F150.

I just went out with a tape measure, 20" to be exact to the bottom of the light edge (stock height and wheels 4x4). Ive never hit them on anything, snow banks are why there are back up cameras as well as other obstacles lol. I think you just need to park a little more careful. I'm in NJ and CT but drive through upper NY, RI and MA. Been over a year and no issues, so I'll just continue to be "careful" when parking lol.

Good for you! I was just forewarning you, that’s all. I’m plenty careful parking, when there is 3’ of snow, and nowhere to park, we usually purposely back into the snow bank, this is not happening on “accident”. The high curbs and parking lot stops are another story. Good luck with them!
