Diablosport tuning help for '13

Hey folks, newb here, so appreciate you letting me ask a question. I have a 2013 2500 with the 5.7 Hemi. I got a brand new Diablosport i3 tuner for it. Ive tried tuning it twice and both times it bricked the computer and I had to be towed into the dealer and have a stock tune flashed. In talking with Diablosport they say its a known issue with the '13s to struggle with tuning them.

Anybody else run into this? Id love to get a tune on my truck, but so far its been all failure. Any recommendations?

Have you updated the firmware to latest revision on the device through a PC?

Are you attempting to load the perf. trans tune along with any PCM/octane canned tunes?

8 speed or 6?

Read closer,he has a 2500,they didn't offer an 8 speed in them

Morning Jeff,we had a hell of time putting a Trinity on my old 13 1500,i actually gave up,and turned the young guys at the local speed shop loose on it,it took about a dozen calls to Diablo and several hours of their time,before they finally got it installed,so you're not alone.At the time Diablo claimed it was because I was one of the first trying to tune a 13,and they didn't have the 13's quite figured out back then.I would of thought they'd have the 13's figured out by now,i feel for you.If it keeps giving you trouble,i'd send it back,and look for a HP tuner instead.HP has the earlier trucks figured out a little more then Diablo has.Diablo's CMR tuning platform leaves a lot to be desired at times.

Betting it's a device firmware issue. OP what model number is the device ex. 8300

I updated as far as Diablosport would let it go. Multiple times. Diablosport actually had me send it back to them and said dont try tuning it again. However im curious if its a Diablosport issue or an issue with all tuners on a 13?

It's a Diablo issue,HP tuning works on the 13's.Send it back and hunt up somebody who tunes via HP tuning

I tried tuning my 13 1500 Sport and it bricked my PCM. I sent it to Diablo and they reflashed it with the stock tune. I unmarried my Diablo and returned it to Amazon. I went to a local tuner and he updated my firmware several levels and eventually I’m going to let him dyno tune my truck as this is the second truck that the Diablo bricked the PCM on, so I have a major trust issue with them. Good luck with your tuning! Diablo has a good reputation but I’ve just not had good experience with them so I’m going to leave it to the pros to give me a better tune than the canned tunes on the i3.

Where in or during the upload did it brick on you?

After setting the engine settings for the 91 Octane tune. As soon as it asked about MDS was about where it bricked.

So you uploaded the 91 tune, then tried to modify it and it bricked?

The two times I tried modify a parameter BEFORE uploading a new PCM/TCM tune it would freeze, so now I always upload the tune with existing or factory settings and modify after. No issues since with dozens of deviations.

Correct. Since this was the second PCM Diablo bricked I’m just done doing it myself as it was my daily driver both times and I can’t afford to have them down.

When mine bricked, the first yi.e it made all the way to the end of putting in the canned tune and then locked up. The second time, after being towed in and reflashed, it locked up at the calibration update. Never even made it to picking a canned tune.

Has anybody had any luck with any other tuner with canned tunes? Im not looking to race my truck, i tow every single day, so id just like to get a little better out of it. Or would a generic canned tune just be pointless?

A generic canned tune isn't going to do much for you.I'd hunt up Jay Greene and have him do you up a towing tune that uses HP as the tuning platform.
