Plus 1 relocate. I love this. So damn quick and easy. Also have a quick drain valve on the oil pan

What’s the recommendation for the quick drain valve and the relocation kit.

For oil there’s an entire thread on here about oil for the hemi engines. The most recommended oil is Redline 5w30 synthetic IIRC. I use Amsoil Signature 5w30 myself. If you don’t want to spend that much - FCA recommends either PP or PUP that you can find for much cheaper at the big box stores usually.

I’m currently using a transdapt 1127 kit from summit racing with PUP 5w30I had a permacool 70988 kit to use the factory filter but had an issue with it and swapped for the other kit to use the larger 3/4-16 filters. I mostly didn’t like how the filter sat on the permacool kit and ended up having a filter not seal properly and leaked oil. Also I’m using -10an hose and fittings instead of the supplied 1/2” hose and barbed fittings. It’s just for peace of mind and -10an is 5/8” so it’s larger. the drain valve I’m using is a 14mm x 1.5 quick drain from summit but you can find others that size. Also @indept is the reason i installed a kit in the first place :D

I love it! Any problems with it conflicting with the lifetime warranty?
Exactly why I haven't done mine. I fully expect it to be blamed for a wiped cam and lifters.

If it comes to cam / lifters going I'll remove the relocate kit before taking it in for service.

It would be a tough argument on their part, the oil pressure, which is measured after the filter on the engine, runs at exactly the same pressure after relocating. I also used 10AN hose like crazykid1994 for better flow.

Im more concerned with if you have it in for normal service, recall, etc and they note it in your "permanent record" for use of throwing it in your face at a later date.

Just use a large funnel with long hose to let the oil from the filter/plate run down into your pan catch while you're waiting for that to completely drain.

Relocation kits are just an expensive future headache.

Edit- They also make a custom funnel to route 30" but they're $30 and i don't think that would be enough to get around everything.

Why would you say this about the relocation kit? Just curious.

Thanks!

I bought that form a funnel, it didn't work. It's more work trying to form & fit it than it is to clean the steering box . it's a sheet of lead inside a flexible plastic coating.

Thats the best part, I never let the dealer do basic service. As for updates, most are just a firmware flash and I doubt they will waste time doing anything they don't have to.

Agreed, but I still dont put it by them.

As far a regular service, I would never pay for those "20K mile services", but the occasional oil change sure. Mostly so that they see the truck....Im sure at some point if there was something that might make them money, they would let me know. If they really inspect underneath they could catch something before it becomes a bigger issue, etc.

Granted, my only dealer experience for actual issues have been answered with "normal characteristic" so maybe Im giving them too much credit. It will be interesting to see if my normal characteristics turn into actual issues once the standard warranty runs out (if they dont catch the fact that I have MaxCare lifetime)

What crafty ideas are you using to catch the oil coming from the oil filter ?
My 2017 ram 1500 will need and oil change soon.
What oil is being used..

1. buy redline oil from vendor on site
2. buy SRT filters from ebay
3. take truck to local mechanic charges me 15 bucks for the oil change
4. drive away happy camper with hands not dirty and old oil deposited without hassle
now for some to say get the satisfaction of doing it yourself and this and that, well 15 bucks is well worth it to me cause in the end i'm still gonna have to take the oil somewhere to get rid of it

That mess is why I do 10K OCIs...Blackstone said I could go 11.5K if I wanted! Oil of choice is QSUD 5W-30; Blackstone tested and approved!

2019 Ram classic 1500 5.7...just did my first oil change, penzoil platinum 5w20 every 4000 miles..and what a crappy place to put that filter, just getting the oil wrench
around it was a *****..you kinda have to do a Dr Seuss move with you arm to get up in there... horrible design, but I got it...yes I did the bag trick..meh..it helps but it's still messy...
