I have a 2017 Big Horn and i recently replaced the cabin air filter with a K&H filter. (Original was really dirty) But I noticed something odd. The air flow assembly/hose was not down on the filter assembly. It was actually up off it and looked to be pointed at where the back of the glove box would be. (Or the inside of the glove box) Anyways, after I replaced the filter I pulled it down so it sits on top of the filter assembly. It made some snapping noises while I did this but I didn't see any broken pieces or the like so I just assumed it was actually making the noise because the hose was being stretched out like it 'should' have been? Am I wrong here and should i have left the hose alone? I had noticed since I bought the vehicle that I could always smell outside smells much more than in any previous vehicle i owned and I thought maybe because of the hose being the way it was this was the cause?

I believe you’re referring to the air flow recirculation door. It’s supposed to automatically adjust according to the outside air/recirculate air HVAC settings.

Bottom yellow arrow is where the filter goes, top yellow arrow is the accordion door.

yes you should have left the outside/recirculation damper alone. You may have broken something internal to the actuator motor or how it attaches to the damper.
It opens to recirculation when the truck is off.

Hearin' that "ooooo, I think I just broke the thing I was pulling on" sound is really special. Especially once you've reached a level of maturity (aka, old) that you shoulda knowed better.
You're not alone brother!
