Thanks to all the help in here @SitKneelBend and @Big daddy’s house and everyone else . Starting to get it customized now to figure out how to remove annoying top menu .

If you feel like buying an app called Automagic (around $5), I can share my "flows" with you to remove the top or bottom or both bars.

In addition, you'll need a launcher that allows you to place widgets on your home screen.

I'll walk you through it if you decide to try it.

I know this is a dumb question but what are you looking at to know what's old or new? Also I'm a bit afraid to mess with the firmware, I just haven't had any of the issues (at least not yet) that have been on this board. On the otherhand I would kind of like all the themes, on the other otherhand maybe all the themes are much of the trouble with these units, thoughts?
The Appver (Application Version) starts with the firmware release date in year/month/day format.

If you want a warm and fuzzy you can first get the current firmware from the seller before flashing. Or ask them directly for firmware with the themes unlocked.

Some themes selected will break things, but for the most part they work well.

I honestly don't know. I never really tried it with CarWebGuru. You can probably look and see if it allows you to add widgets from your apps to your home screen. If so, we can create a widget (in Automagic) that acts as a soft key to toggle the removal of the Chinese top and bottom bars. This way, you can still access them if needed at the touch of a button.

I'll give you my thoughts but nobody's going to agree with me, cuz I have the only working radio out of the box in this entire forum. Even a working Compass @Wayne Stella LOL
Not to talk you in or out of anything but...
I was looking at updating firmware and or rooting a while back and decided against it.
Why?
Because everything already worked! And the thought of me having to carry around my old radio console around with me on long trips (just in case the AC went out or something tragic happen where I would have to replace the Tesla style radio with OEM) WOULD JUST **** ME OFF.
I love to tinker which is the reason I even entertain the thought. And I'm not new to the Android game. I've been rooting and flashing since the Samsung Moment days.
This is a $650 radio in my truck. Something goes wrong, it's not exactly like I can sit on my couch and figure it out, like you can a phone.
Anyways, I took a step back and said, I have a pretty ******* launcher(CarWebGuru) and a few of my favorite live screen wallpapers installed. My head unit looks hot and it works every time...
End of my story.
Man that was long-winded. sorry guys

Are you even able to upgrade yours? If I remember a few months ago you determined your head unit wasn't a true 7.1. A firmware upgrade on yours would be risky right?

Not 6.0 but rather 4.4.4 . Its not risky at all. I've helped quite a few people put firmware on that doesn't fraudulently report the version and specs.

I'm still not sure if the Chinese do this to sell more radios or if their false reporting actually let's you download newer apps from Google Play that would otherwise be unavailable for older versions of Android.

@SitKneelBend said it best...
I literally just came to conclusion, if it's not broke don't try to fix it... Sad really cuz i love to break things. Lol [emoji23]

But for real, between YouTube, work and family, I just don't have the time to mess with or dial it all in.

Has anyone returned their t-style radio to Phoenix during the first 30 days? Initially, I thought I would just return it...but before I try another one from a different seller, I figured I would see how Phoenix would handle replacing it. But, after a couple days...I'm not getting many answers from them. I wonder if they start my 30 day return period again when I receive a new unit? If they don't... I'll just do a return and start over somewhere else. Just wondering if anyone else returned theirs within the first 30 days?

Thanks!

I returned my 7.1 fastboot version to Phoenix within the first 30 days... then ordered a PX6 from them... then returned the PX6 within the first 30 days. Lol

Wow....LMAO! Were they new orders each time or "exchanges".... which is how they refer to it if I want another one.

Since I went from the PX3 to the PX6 they were new orders. But an exchange could be better than a new order if it ships from the US Phoenix office. Might have been inspected more thoroughly prior to sending the exchange. Either way you are taking a chance on a new company or an exchange from Phoenix. There are no guarantees you'll get one that works perfectly.

In my advanced settings there is an option for steering wheel controls and it says something like custom or stock configuration have you tried changing it to stock configuration. Custom never worked for me....
Also I noticed a few weeks back steering wheel controls are in AlfaOBD too. Can't remember exactly where though. Sorry.
But I would scroll through and make sure it's turned on.

I do not have those settings available. Mine is a fastboot 7.1.1

To get steering wheel controls back, first go into the "Console" menu on the top Chinese menu bar and switch the measurement unit from "American" to "Metric" and back again...

Sent from my HTC U11 using Tapatalk

So today I was still trying to get the steering wheel controls to work and decided to try everything you folks had recommended again to see if I would get lucky. I changed from American to Metric and what I noticed was the EVIC changed to Metric, which it did not do the last time. I did a save and reboot then switched it back to American. The EVIC changed back to American and viola!..........the steering wheel controls work again! Like I said on a previous post I have no idea how American/Metric is connected to the steering wheel controls but it worked. So how did you figure that one out? I never would have even tried that.

20190918_181642.jpg well have had my PX3 installed for a week now and I absolutely love it. Changed a bunch of options to customize screens too. I was skeptical keeping it because of the black border around the screen but Im glad I did. This unit was purchased from Rhino Radios.

Rhino is for sure notorious for selling the 9.something screen advertised as a 10.4.
It is a sweet radio!
Glad it worked out for you.

A LOT of trial and error...I believe I first noticed it when the Android Auto Dongle would become unresponsive to button presses.

So, on my particular head unit. 4.4.4
you can only get standard by having the setting on metric.... Lol
I don't know why this is but it works.
I made a video on it several months ago because I had so many people asking questions about how to get the evic to read standard. Some things about this head unit make no sense. But after you figure most of the trial and tribulations out it's golden....
