I have a 2017 Power Wagon and the Rambox lids were not in alignment with the truck bed. Not a huge deal, I guess, but I spent a bunch of money on a new truck and I thought the fit and finish should be better that what it was. Every time I saw another Ram with Ramboxes, I'd take a look at the alignment and most of the time they looked great.

Long story short, I've had my truck at the dealership at least five times for them to make adjustments. Most of the time after an adjustment, the fascia on the Rambox lid starts to pop off. The dealership even had an auto body repair facility replace a complete Rambox lid system and the fascia has popped off. I took the truck back to the dealership this week as they told me they had a Rambox "expert" that had a lot of experience with this issue that would be making the repair. Truck looked great when I picked it back up. Next morning the fascia popped off.

Might be a trivial expectation or request for the Rambox lids to be in alignment with the truck bed, but it bugs me. Maybe I should just give up and accept it is what it is.

I really like having the Ramboxes, I just think there's a flaw in the design by using plack injected molded plastic for the lid. It appears the constant change in temperature causes the lid to twist and flex more than it should.

Rant over. Thanks for listening.

I had three locks for the boxes replaced under warranty. I feel your pain with the misalignment. Seems like mine are never locked down all the way if you get what i mean.

Thats why i wanted to wait for the updated body on the 2500s. The new ram boxes look like a much better design. I wonder if the owners are having similar issues

I’ve also had 3 lock actuator replacements under warranty so far on my 2018... and both are currently busted, again.

The lids are made of abs plastic, if the fascia keeps popping off, the lid is warped and needs to be replaced

Mine pretty much look like Corvette427’s. Just enough to tell they are not perfect, but not horrible. Kinda drives me nuts, but I also realize there are many out there much worse, so I dont complain about it much. Never had an issue with the covers delaminating or with the locks either (as I go find a wood table to knock on).

And for what its worth, I use these things heavily. They have been opened and closed probably a zillion times.

I've thought that although the idea was a "somewhat" good one from a "box/cargo access stand-point, the concept of the ram box would be a difficult one to execute in a mass production sense. I'm also curious as to what other issues will present after time and miles build on the RAM Box pickup beds. Same goes for the new fangled tail gates with all the triple flip/flop/fold down steps and stuff (other brands are flaunting). Great concept, but I'm betting money they will be fraught with issues (no pun intended) down the road. Mores the case with those operating them in winter climates with road salt issues to contend with. We are/have moved away from the K.I.S.S approach to engineering big time,,,Keep It Simple Stupid.

Keep at them until you get results and a fix you are happy with. They should not be allowed to have this type of thing go un-resolved.

my boxes (both sides)were about 1/2 inch high on one side of the box/bed only the other side was almost even with the bed. This really bothered me. I finally removed the box, and ground down the plastic studs the boxes sat on, bolted the boxes back, adjusted the strikers, and latches now they sit fairly flat with decent gaps, but what a pain in the ass!

Good job!

Did you add the red stripe along the top of the lower black paint?

IMG_3300.JPG ^ yes I removed the black stripe, and ordered a roll of reflective red. I like how it sets the truck off. looks good with the pin stripes! In this photo you can see the mis-matched height in the rear if the box

I agree the Ram boxes are convenient but over time I have doubts they would hold up. I’m old school I think simple is better , especially tailgates.

@Al Handy dont suppose you can do a write up of removing and filing down the posts? Mine do the same as what yours did.

I sprayed the crap out of the areas below the ram boxes, the supports and fenders, especially around the interface between the fender and wheel well (where most of the rust starts) with under coating. FYI, there is enough room above the tail light and between box and tail lights to fit the compressor and regulator for the air bags.

As for the write up, once you take the Ram Box out, comes out after you take easily all the 10 MM bolts out (there are bolts under the rubber "floor mats" at the corners of the box), flip it over, you will see a series of nippIMG_0407.jpg les that hold the box above the metal sill plates the box rests on. I would assume that the box is held above the sill plates for drainage purposes.

it will become a trial and error grinding a little off of the nipples and fitting the box back. Mine was bad and I actually had to grind down the raised parts around the bolt holes (sorry I did not take any pictures) I guessed at the slope the box needed to be to have both ends sit flush with the bed rails. I ground each of the nipples to the point where it fit pretty well. The gap between the bottom of the box and truck bed can be adjusted by its bump stops

Mine was so bad that I took the rubber weather stripping off and took about an 1/8 off the plastic lip that holds the weather stripping. I did this only on the side that sat really high.

I hope this helps a little

I really appreciate it. I didn't think about putting the air compressor there. I like that idea. Thanks for that [emoji3]

So, finally hear back from Ram Assistance. They've basically told me to try a different dealership to try to fix it. What kind of ******** assistance is that??

Working with the dealership here to get them replaced, warped and not fitting correctly. As of last week they were waiting on parts, of all parts the Power Wagon decals for the sides...who would think the vinyl would be the hold up. It's been nearly 6 months!

I'm going to have a pint shop permanently put the power wagon badging on the sides so I dont have to worry about a decal coming off. Just need to get some quotes.
