I don't always pay close attention to my odometer, but when I parked at my office this afternoon, I noticed the reading was 65,999.4. Since I'm slightly OCD, I thought, "Cool, I should hit an even 66,000.0 at a light just down the road"

When I got in the truck to leave, I looked at the odometer again, and it showed 65,999.0. Was a bit confused. I tried watching it a little on the way home, and noticed the miles switched over around .2 or .3 instead of changing when you go from .9 to .0.

I actually took a video, but not sure how to upload videos without posting them to youtube. This is what the odometer read, in this order:

66,006.9
66,006.0
66,006.1
66,006.2
66,007.2
66,007.3

Mileage isn't wrong, but the decimal seems out of order. Any ideas what could cause this? It may have been doing this for a while, but I never noticed until now.

I have played with some stuff using alfaobd, but nothing that would affect mileage.

I've noticed on a couple of occasions now that when I get in the truck, the odometer is reading .0 at the end. Almost like the decimal is working separately from the rest of the numbers. Last drive I made today, I noticed the odometer was going up when the decimal was at .7 now. The mileage is still accurate, but decimal has a mind of its own.

Strange but I have this on my "big" truck at work. My Swedish Peterbilt will hop around on the right side of the decimal point but always on the "increase side". You'll look at say a..., .2 and you know you've gone a good 1/2 mile and it'll read .5 but then jump a whole whatever and catch up at the next whole number.

Not to hijack your post but I have an odometer WTF. This past April I bought a 2014 Ram Tradesman from Carmax. Plain Jane regular cab, 4 wheel drive, 8-foot bed, vinyl floor/seat...as vanilla as it gets. I have the Carmax owners app on my phone which just has basic info on the truck, purchase date, VIN, essential phone numbers, etc, etc.

It also has the mileage listed when I bought it. Now...whenever I open the app, more now that I discovered this little annoyance, it has the CURRENT mileage listed also and it is SPOT ON. This truck has no U-connect though I did register it on the Mopar Owner's web-site to track the recalls it had (all fixed) and maybe potential in the future. Also, my Ram dealer shoots me service specials and reminders through this web-site. As I am somewhat certain, this truck has no factory 'Tracking" that would show with say a U-connect system.

My question is how does Carmax know continually what my mileage is? Even the Mopar site asks for me to update mileage when I sign in so I assume it's not connected or paired between the two. Hmmm...

Any good sites that sell quality tin-foiled hats and black-helicopter repellant?

No sir, nada, nope. Not a huge deal. Just spooky and a bit invasive but then again even Google knows what I had for breakfast just by logging on to the interwebz this morning. We'll never win. Walking around the house looking for a t-shirt to wear and then getting a "Hanes" pop-up ad next time I turn on my phone...nahhhh, nothing to see here folks!

Pandaram,
I am not sure about CarMax specifically, but some dealers add tracking systems into every vehicle they sell. I read some time ago of one I believe national dealer that got into trouble with the feds over it because they didn't inform the purchasers of such. I am sure it's for their benefit in case of repo, but they may add a few bells and whistles to make the customer more accepting of such. I would imagine if this is the fact, that it would be mentioned somewhere in the purchase paperwork. I think they even state that it is not to be removed by the purchaser from what I read somewhere. Maybe this helps answer one or 2 questions.
As for the OP sorry to assist in the hijacking of this post, you have an odd one for sure. Keep those tin foil hats at the ready. LOL

My 14 sport 4wd crew cab does this to. It's annoying not finding an answer and doesn't impact anything, more so just not knowing WHY! Lol
