So I was heading to work today and traffic was thick as normal in Houston. The fast lane wasn't moving but at a snails pace while all other lanes had been moving. So when we started to move I looked to get over and then looked in front of me and they stopped and I couldn't in time. I re-ended an F250 with his tow hitch on. The tow hitch won. He has little damage to his bumper. I have beat myself up over this today because no matter what its my fault and I know better. My deductible is $1000 if I decide to have the insurance fix my truck. I think I can fix it myself for less. Does anyone know if this is a hard process or not to complicated?

I agree with Kurek on both of his statements!

As for the fix, it takes about an hour or 2 to replace the bumper cover and the bumper core as I just did it not long ago. Also, now would be a good time if you wanted to upgrade to an aftermarket bumper as it would be the same process but less actual parts if you went with the steel bumpers because there’s no bumper cover. Just a thought.

I might get knocked down but you better be gone when I get up!

Glad you weren’t hurt but that’s proof the bull bar is nothing more than bling... I had one on a truck years ago but have since decided that it’ll only be more cash out of pocket in an at fault accident...

Good news is you can still drive away from the accident. Good thing it didn't punch through the radiator.

Glad everyones alright not sure what part of Houston your in but man i hate the traffic up here on the north side. As far as parts you could easily get the bumper off ebay theres a place that sells on there out of dallas should have everything you will need not badly priced either. Only thing that may cost a bit is the painted bumper top. Or you could always update the front end to the newer bumper and grill see stuff on craigslist all the time.

The concern is the bumper bolts to the frame so the frame could be bent. You should get a body shop to give you an estimate.

Regardless of your truck youll be replacing the fords bumper as well and that guy likely wont be cool with that, i know i probably wouldnt be. Just my opinion. Other than that like the others said **** happens wipe your shoes off outside and move on.

May want to see what the bill on the ford and possible personal injury claim comes to first. Some insurance companies will let you pay out the accident cost vs raising your rates.

I’m willing to bet the fords frame rails are bent down. If his receiver is pointing down at all, the frame is very likely bent.

Your front frame horns might not be too true either. I would be letting insurance eat the bill for sure.

My 2017 1500 took a small hit in a parking lot someplace in the last few weeks. Noticed it when I washed it, have no idea who hit it. Small dent in front bumper, and scratches in cover above the bumper. Got an estimate, bumper and cover (paint the cover) installed gets to $1500 in a hurry. Mine has Park Sense up front, so there are some extra parts to move to the new bumper, but I was surprised at the cost.

The Ford guy was not upset and my insurance already has taken care of him. I took my truck into a body shop before I left to drive out of town. I was going to take a hit on my insurance for his bumper so I had my insurance just pay me for my bumper. They are sending me almost $1100.

those bull bars arent what one might expect-they can actually twist the frame where they are attached and as you can see they dont protect the bumper that well. May have save you damage to the rad though. There really is no right answer -pay for this or more for that. I do know that a dented rear bumper cost me almost $1000 though but I went with OEM for the thicker original guage-though they arent near as thick as the metal they used to use.

May not be a hard fix at all. If none of the mounting points for your bumper (where it attaches to the body) are bent, bolts broken off, etc., it should be pretty simple. Might be able to bolt a new bumper on (Ranch Hand, etc) and just move on down the road. However, you might have a shop look at it for an estimate, just to make sure it didn't knock any of your body panels out of line. Not as easy to fix yourself, unless you do that for a living.
