Howdy all

2017 Ram Sport

I bought it a few months ago and it came with relatively new BF Goodrich all terrain tires. These things look bad ass and pretty much complete the truck’s look. The only thing is, they come with some road noise and probably a small MPG hit. Question I have is, are the stock Goodyear’s a good option? Should I switch to those for a smoother ride and better MPG? I don’t really go off road much if at all.
Thx

The stock goodyear SRAs are junk so dont go that route if you change them out.

Those BFGs are great tires and will work great at most everything but as you pointed out they will cost you alittle mpg in the extra weight they carry. But they are a truck tire and not a car tire like comes on these things stock.

Myself I would leave them on but I dont care about alittle noise or the cost of mileage they would cause.
Having a better tire to me is worth it.

I love the BFG's myself, I think I only lost about 1mpg and the road noise on the KO2s wasn't noticeable, I also went with the stock size... so they are only 33s. I've had them for 60k and will probably get another 10-15k out of them. Next set I go with will def be the same BFG KO2 ATs only in 35s..

Nothing worse than the SRAs.

Michelin defenders are and excellent highway tire.

my life needs an AT, I run general grabber AT2s. Not as good as the BFG, but lighter and cheaper.

I've had KO2s and LTXs on my 16 RAM 4x4.I don't do off roading and my truck is my daily driver.I thought the KO2s were terrific but a bit too noisy for me and I felt for normal driving they were a bit loose. On the other hand,I've found the LTXs to be exactly what I need. They are very quiet and very sure-footed for everyday and all weather driving

AT tires not only look better on a truck, they are also more rugged for work or offroad trail fun and perform better in more extreme conditions compare to any highway tire. Hwy tires do better on the hwy at maximizing MPG. Cool thing of it all...., We have many many choices and we are free to choose what we want here in USA.

With thay said you already have one of the best set of AT's money can buy. They're more expensive compared to others but you get piece of mind when you need AT performance out of the tire. Im on my 5th official KO2 set ever, havent have that with other tires and trust me ive tried a lot of AT tires from cheap to expensive. No regrets ever with KO2's. i guess that's part of the reason i keep coming back to them.

This ↑↑↑ I had KO2's in E and accepted the trade-off between a better tire and less MPG. I had no noise issues. I decided the KO2's were overkill for my use and am trying Falken Wildpeaks. I'd NEVER put those SRA's back on!!!

What ever you do don't put the SRA's back on they are terrible. Had them on two trucks, didn't last 20K and terrible on wet roads. My 2019 actually came with Nexans which are still better then the Goodyears but I'm currently deciding what to replace them with when the time comes. I have had the Michelins and they are a great tire but I may put something a bit more rugged looking on this time.

I was just looking at tires for my company truck. Comparing the 285/65R20s that are on it now, vs 275/65 and 275/60.
Looking at the Michelin LTX AT2, the BFG ATKO2 and the Michelin Defender LTX.

I ran the defender LTX 275/65R20 on my F150 and freaking loved everything about them, other than their looks (very pedestrian). My Coworker than the LTX AT2s on his Company truck (Cummins) and again on his current F250 and swears by them.

About 90% of my miles are on open highway, but that other 10% can be on some really sketchy stuff.
Hopefully it won't be 10%, but it's possible. I'm kind of leaning towards stock size LTXs.

FYI the 285/65 KO2s are 72# MORE (full set) over the stock size LTXs. That alone is going to be a huge difference in driveability.
I'll make that decision here in the next couple of days, pictures to soon follow...

Don't go back to the gym junk tire. Stay whith the bfg. But if you do decide to get new tires check out the falcon a/t 3. Or the michlin. I just got a set of falcon H/t 02 good tire that have a little road nois but not bad

If I bought a truck with the KO2s, I'd use them up before replacing.

I am glad you guys had good luck with the Michelins. I bought a set once... never going back. Worst "A/T" tire I've ever used in the snow, but they were good on the highway.

Falken tires seem to be bad out here as well, as I see a ton of them on Craigslist and other places for sale with around half tread.

I've always been curious about the KO2s, but keep going back to my tried-and-true Hankook DynaPro ATm tires. They are a bit noiser than the Michelins, but I'll deal with that to get better traction in the winter. Now that they have gotten rid of the ATm and gone to a different design, I will have to re-evaluate my choices next time, though.

Well, ever since this thread got revived I’ve since traded in the 2017 for a new 2019 Bighorn (see my avatar) Love the truck and it came with Bridgestone Dueler H/Ls that actually have been great in the one snowfall we got here in the DC area last week. They are also pretty quiet and smooth on the road.
I do miss my old A/T tires, they looked great!
Going to run these Bridgestones until they wear, then maybe switch to Cooper AT3s

I just replaced Nexans on my 2019 with Falken Wildpeaks (yeserday). I hate the look of the stock tires on a truck. I had KO2's on my last Ram but they were overkill and a bit too pricey for what I need. I've read a lot of good things about the Falkens on this site and the tire guy said they were a good choice. Lots to choose from but just my 2 cents. I do some light off-roading (beach) and a few snowy trips up to Vermont each winter plus have to deal with messy NY winters with a decent amount of snow.
