I have a 2011 5.7 L hemi and my transmission just went out. I’m looking for suggestions of who to get a new one trough and what I could get for under $2,000. Thanks!

I do not know the cost. Monster Transmissions is an option

What type of transmission do the 5.7 1500s use?

45RFE not sure, never had one or paid much attention. 545RFE/65RFE are the same trans with different programming, both have 6 forward gears.

The 66 and 68 are different than the 545 & 65 and are used in the HD’s, 66 with gas, 68 w/diesel. The 66 and 68 have the same ratios but the 68 is beefier to handle the Cummins.

I could go on into more detail but that should get you going.

IIRC, based on yours being a 2011, you have the 545RFE.

4 speed 5 speed 6 speed and HD 6 speed are the rfe's. I believe the 2011 would be 66rfe, just a guess but it would be a 6 in the first number. But the issue is when upgraded the rfe is a great transmision, the downside it they cost near ten grand. You would be looking at an amco rebuild special or a junk yard, but it still will likely be over 2 g's.

What happened exactly? And who told you need a transmission? If the clutch pack is still functioning likely the issue will be in valve body only, and that could be done near 2 grand.

Overall the RFE's are a pretty decent transmission, if you can find a take-out from a wrecked truck you can pretty safely assume it was working because parked vehicles don't usually get into wrecks :D

That's what I'd do in your position - clean it really well inside and out, new spin-on & pick up filters and assume it's good.

If you're buying one from a wreck, try to avoid one from a roll-over,especially if it sat upside down for any length of time.Odds are all the **** that was in the pan will be inside the tranny afterwards. Been there/done that, and learned never buy a used tranny from a roll over, unless you're going to totally clean and rebuild it

Third and fourth? But not 5th? This video is for the 68, but it's the same thing as far as info goes for the valve body. If your third and fourth is out but 5th isn't, could be valve body. If you are on a serious budget, I think you are stuck with junk yard tranny. But if you do the upgrades in that video, and the upgrades in the rfe weaknesses, your transmision will likely outlast the truck unless you tow heavy or do a lot of wot.

Again, this is for the 68 but the general info is the same as your 66 or 65, must watch video.
