It did not call for any recalls on servicing the trans.

The only trans related recall was a TCM software update a couple months after i purchased the truck.
I was diligent on all recalls, as i believe if you have problems after a recall was called and you did not take care of it, its your issue.

some comments here are atrocious.

a 2018 with 25k miles and proactive maintenance with a failing trans is an issue of NO ones but FCA.
im betting that bypass temp valve failed and starved oil.

Gotchya. Yea I think it was a solenoid or something that had a recall on my ‘16.

25k miles on the truck.

said it from the get-go...Transmission tuning is crap, shift logic is crap, lugging is crap, downshifts are crap.

Trans is out for the count.

Had it flushed around 20k miles. At 25k miles now.

The other day it had a hard downshift, almost felt like i got rear ended...
Then the next morning, truck had a harder downshift...this time i had that pit in stomach feeling of being hit, it was so harsh.

The next couple of days, it drove fine, trans temps never above 180 and everything was ok except some hard shifts here and there but not as bad as had happened the prior days.

Then woke up one morning and it sounded like trash, and almost sounded like something was being tossed around the trans pan, but only when in drive and foot on brake. Not in park or neutral.
Then drove it to dodge, had the tech test drive it for 30 minutes.
each and every shift got worse, and upon arriving back at the service isle...temp was 230 DEGREES.What?

I will update everyone shortly. This is trash. I was literally looking at the ATS bypass block a few weeks back. If this is what caused the failure, i wonder if the trans flush set it off? That would be against most logic but you never know.
too much crap on the truck, it doesn't know what it's supposed to do !!!!

Funny I aim wrong watched a whole half hour show on a guy who was buying a Ram for snow removal. So I guess the whole show is wrong and I didn't watch it . Maybe you just don't let them know what you do .But as the show was about Dodge had to be informed that their truck would be used in snow removal or nothing was covered by the dealer he made the purchase from ,Don,t know how big your company is but this guy had like 5 trucks doing his company,s snow removal

Well there you go...everyone knows that everything you see on TeeVee is real...and everything you read on the interweb is true...Abe Lincoln said so.

They can't deny a warranty claim if the act didn't cause it.

I upgrade my tires (same size) and the engine grenades, they can't deny the warranty because I put different tires on it. Or exhaust. Or tinted my windows.

The plow frame stays on. They are well aware I plow with it. I have 3 Rams, 3 Fords, 1 Sterling, 1 Isuzu, a Dakota and 2 GMCs and a Chebby. I'm small taters.

The TeeVee show is wrong.

Hello all

I have both the 68RFE and the 66RFE. I just came back from hauling a TT across the Midwest and to the Colorado mountains. I loved the 66RFE going up and down 6% grades. I used the transmission more than the brakes to keep my speed down on the descents and pushed the vehicle hard going up the mountains. Highest temp was 178 on trans temp. I think these trans are solid. In fact I am getting ready to do my 2nd flush on the 68RFE. We tow 17k lb with it and The trans fluidd I like to keep fresh on these rigs. Well hope this helps.

If you don't care why did you reply that you don't care?

Hugs and kisses

i believe the 66rfe is a tank of a trans. bulletproof if they used less EPA engineering and more quality components
Valve bodies and solenoids are very important and not something to just throw in, or cheap out on.

you could build the most solid trans with a scrap yard RFE, and a few billet parts for less then a new factory one.

so i picked up the truck after 3 weeks and 2 days and it was running just fine about 8 miles home down a main city road, 45MPH. Taking it easy, as if i had just experienced a trans failure...

reverse into my driveway, Hard shift to Reverse, clunk into park.
Thought it was just learning shifts.

10 minutes later, i leave to head to work. I made it about quarter mile with slow acceleration at neighborhood speeds, and once it shifted into 4th, it stayed there....
I noticed the truck felt like it wasnt moving very fast with the pedal application, so i clicked the gear select and it displayed 4th...tried to select 6 and no response. Tried to shift down to 3rd, no response..... pulled over and went into park...shifted to drive, and the truck feels like its lugging, Still displays 4th and shows 4th as the only selectable gear. cant go to 6th and cant go to 1st gear.
With throttle application, i can tell its actually lugging about in 4th...doesnt feel like anything is slipping, just feels like its actually stuck in 4th..

no check engine lights. Restarting did not help.
is this a limp mode?

warranty work showed new bypass valve, torque converter, and other internals and fluids.
$1500 in parts and $1500 in labor.

i hope i get a reman or new unit next, how am i suppose to trust a dealer tech who possibly botched the first fix?

If I read that right, you spent $3K and the transmission didn't even make 20 miles? You need to have a serious talk with the management at the dealer, tell them you have serious reservations that they're capable of fixing your truck.
If you paid for that repair with a credit card, call the CC company and explain what happened to see if they'll withhold payment until the matter is resolved.

OP didnt pay, Im guessing that was the bill if he HAD to pay but since it was under warranty, then no pay.

BUT I bet the dealer collected from FCA, even without actually fixing the issue.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Maybe I don't feel so bad about the "6" Speed. 92K nothing but a fluid exchange at 72K.

It was indeed covered under warranty.

Last night, i started the truck up to see what it would do.
Drove fine for 5 minutes around the neighborhood, so i parked it.

thought i would drive it to work ~3 miles~ and 1.5 miles in i came up to a stop light, and Check engine light came on this time.
Limp mode in 4th gear rest of the way to work. I requested the dealer send a flatbed to protect my investment, but they stated limp mode to the dealer is acceptable.
So back it goes in a few hours.
