2017 Ram Big Horn. V6 Pentastar.

I can access the cabin air filter cover, but there are two plastic 'pins' that go up into receiving holes on the cover face and prevent the cover / filter from sliding out. I can open a wide enough gap and see what looks to be a filter, but there does not seem to be a way to access without breaking the pins.
When I clicked open the side retaining clips, they broke off, and if I break the pins it looks like a duct tape fix would be int he works.

Any ideas?

I just watched two videos on replacing the cabin air filter in the 2017 Ram. Behind the glove box. A narrow plastic cover is removed and I air filter is exposed

On some trucks the side closest to the passenger side, there is a wire harness that needs to be carefully moved over and then will allow the door to be removed.

You know I have added the cabin filter on prior a few 4th gen trucks and never really notice a improvement on the dust in the truck. I did notice the noise was a little less but not much else.

I am curious if the cabin filter is standard on some models and not on others. I have a 19 classic that I will more than likely add if it does not have already.
Any way to tell beside pulling the glove box?

I’m not sure but it only takes a minute or two to pull it out and see.

I have a18 bighorn , it has it. My brother has a 16 rebel it doesn't have it. Maybe started around 17 18 not sure. It's not listed on the build sheet or window sticker.

Late build '16 started to get just the removable filter door, but no filter. The '17s were consistently coming with the air filters also.

You just have to pull it out and look... I think it depends on the day/month/dark of the moon/boolean calculation as to if your vehicle has the filter or not... I have a '12 2500 CTD long bed. My brother in law bought the same truck except his is a short bed. Same year, same engine, same option package. His had the filter, mine didn't. I bought the kit from Geno's and installed it, easy peasy...

PaultGarrett, can you give us information on how to get the kit. My 2012 does not have a filter but I would like to add one.

Thanks,

Dan

One of the videos on Youtube shows that you have to cut out the cover to access the filter..... like with a dremmel or a hacksaw. Yeah, right.... I don't think I care that much.

Had to do that on my 2014 6.4L Big Horn. It wasn't hard to do and it was worth it.

That's my year so I guess I'll have to do it if I want to get in. So, did Ram just not put a filter in back then? I don't really care so much about having a filter but just don't want one that is plugged up and slowing my flow.

I think it was part of some option group that wasn't on my Big Horn.

My Laramie has the option.

I did the mod a few days ago and I feel like the fans are slower and don’t blow colder air anymore...
Anyone have solutions to this or could it be that I put the air filter on the wrong way?
If so I don’t know how, the filter shows an arrow pointing down so I left it like that because that what the little door shows...

I bought a 16' 1500 Bighorn and I purchased a cabin filter for it by the vin number. I removed the glove box to find that the slot for the cabin filter was not cut out. After some youtube research I found you have to buy a "mod" or a cover for the cabin filter, and cut the hole out yourself.

Picture 1: This the before.

Picture 2: After I cut the hole for the cabin filter.

Picture 3: Sliding the cabin filter in. Trimmed a bit to clean up edges.

Picture 4: This is the cabin filter cover. (purchased on Amazon)
