Hey guys,

So, I don't make many threads; mostly for fear of getting jacked up because the topic might already exist in some deep dark corner of the forum. But i did a search and after two pages I thought, "I'm goin for it."

My warranty is up next month, and despite my best efforts, I didn't manage to break anything significant during these 7 years, 150 000 km's. I was an apprentice mechanic at a Dodge dealership for 3 years before I decided to join the army 11 years ago. So i suppose I went with the extended warranty because of those rare but catastrophic issues that I saw during my brief time as a mechanic.

All in all, this is all I got for my extra cost of my warranty:
1. Tailgate latches replaced because tailgate would drop during cold months (my truck did not qualify for the recall)
2. Back up camera replaced due to fogging

I did not include recalls because I would have gotten those anyway.
I'm just curious what everyone else had replaced under warranty. Maybe a consensus would help others decide if the extended warranty is really worth the extra cost. It wasn't for me.

Cheers

Thank you for your service to our Country. I have the extended warranty on my 2017 Ram Sport. Nothing on my truck has required the use of the warranty.

I had the fuel sensor in the gas tank replaced twice in a one week period. The PCM, the transmission control module, and the shifter. The radio was also replaced. The window trim on all four doors.

I have the lifetime. In 7 years and 57k miles I've only used it once, and that was for the #3 cylinder coil earlier this year.

Honestly since the lifetime isn't available any longer I'd not gamble on an extended warranty. I planned to keep this truck for a long time and the lifetime made sense. That's still the plan.

If lifetime were available I probably would have gone with it as well. This was my dream truck, I plan on driving it into the ground.

I'm just curious what everyone else had replaced under warranty.

Mine is a typical 3yr/36k mile warranty (which is about to die pretty soon here - a couple months or 2500 miles off, either way. I'll have the powertrain warranty until 6yr/60k miles though)

But - I got a new set of Active Grille shutters because of the warranty (CEL wouldn't go away and I lost the "Eco" indicator. I'm thinking it was from when a huge owl creamed the main grille about 3 months before that). Dealership said "no problem" and had it swapped out in a couple of hours.

I almost forgot about the bolts on the exhaust manifolds. I need to replace them again. [emoji19]

I’ve got the Lifetime Maxcare and THAT has been used to replace my a/c compressor and belt tensioner (about a month ago).

While I had my factory warranty:

whole truck repainted
Steering rack (twice)
Transmission
Valve body in new transmission
Driver side window trim
Exhaust manifold bolts

the re-paint, steering rack, and trans stuff was all around the same time. Truck has been pretty trouble free after the 1st year..........

truck is now 6 years old w/103k and counting

They repainted your truck, and that was covered by the warranty? I didn't know that.
Yep, the paint had defects on every panel so they approved my brand new truck getting re-painted. This was within the first year of ownership, I want to say I discovered the problem within the first couple of months (really hard to notice on a white truck at first but easy to see once identified). Bought the truck around October so I didn’t get to wash and detail it as much as I usually would since it was winter......,would have noticed almost immediately had it been the spring or summer. I’m afflicted with this deranged desire to keep my daily driver/dad’s taxi almost car show level clean!

I am on my 3rd airbag clock spring and it's started clicking again. Really annoying. It was first replaced under the factory warranty so they did not make me pay a deductible the last time it was replaced when I took it in with 40k miles. They have also re-attached 2 fender flares but also on factory warranty.

What were the symptoms that required a/c compressor and belt tensioner replacement?

What were the symptoms that required a/c compressor and belt tensioner replacement?

a/c would intermittently quit blowing cold air and you could hear the compressor whining (easy to hear if you cycled the compressor on and off via the a/c button). I had to go back twice, the 1st time they couldn’t replicate the problem and the noise wasn’t overly loud but I could hear it. There was no leak and the refrigerant was full. Sure enough about 2 weeks later it starting doing it at almost every start up.

Best I can describe it when I first noticed it was like a slipping clutch............the a/c was on then all of a sudden the air wouldn’t be very cold and you heard a slight whine.

when I went back the second time I had the tech come out in the drop off bay to listen and sure enough he heard it. He told me the tensioner could be contributing or the problem so they replaced it as well. Oh, and they covered a new serpentine belt (they didn’t think it would be covered since it is a wear item but warranty took care of it).

Nice. My A/C makes a whining noise when running, but 2 dealers say its not overly loud so I guess Ill just keep waiting for it to scream like an angry baby.
