HELP! 2011 1500 HEMI. Truck shakes badly when out in AWD and 4X4. Can’t figure it out. Just replaced transfer case, everything else seems good. Even shakes when AWD is on but not engaging.

Are you leveled? Usually shocking in 4wd is from CV joints....

Have pretty much replaced most of the suspension and steering components over the past couple of years but I have had this problem for a long time.

huh? Can you expand a little, you mean 4 low and high, what is awd? Shakes at idle in drive with brake on? Even if in neutral with 4x4? Shakes in Park in 4x4? Can you feel it on one side more then other? More info is needed.

I notice a little vibration with mine the otherday when it snowed and couldnt get up my driveway. I switched to 4wd auto and it engaged and pulled me right up the driveway. the next day it was still in auto and i noticed it at about 35mph, i just switched it back to 2wd and all was good. Yes im leveled.

Sorry, to clarify, it does it in 4wd Auto even when not engaging and 4wd. Shakes like an mf’er upon excelleration as well as driving speeds. Tough to say exactly where it’s coming from because it feels like the entire truck.

Sounds like an output shaft or T case issue to me. If it were a solid axle it could be trac bar, but you have nothing down there but puny axle shafts. If it were suspension or even left or right axle shafts, I would have to believe you would be able to feel one side or the other. I just think you need to put as much info as you can to get help. Why was transfer case replaced? Has it wobbled since then? Did it wobble before you changed t case. Have you visualized the yoke? etc, more info

When you put in t case did that solve it for a while, or not at all?

The BW 44-44 Full-Time transfer case uses a clutch to engage the front axle. The truck will variably apply the clutch based on throttle, steering angle, slip detection, etc.
The truck can be in 4X4 but the front axle not "engaged"

I think not sure in 4 auto and 4lock the shaft is spinning but the clutch is not engaged if not needed. Is this correct. Maybe the shaft is out of balance

Sounds like a front driveshaft issue. Even with no clutch apply in 4auto, the front diff is engaged (via central axle disconnect), therefore the front drivetrain will all be rolling (but not powered) while the front tires are rolling.

The problem happened well before the transfer case and even before I replaced the tranny. We were hoping the new T case would solve the problem but it didn’t. Both front axels have been replaced.

burla 4wd Auto When not engaged.
As well as 4x4 high and low. Only time I don’t get a shake is in 2wd

is it possible that the front driveshaft universal joints are not indexed properly??

The only other idea I can throw out there, is both of the front tires the same size? My neighbor had this problem, he said his truck chattered really bad when 4X4 was engaged (his didn't have an Auto mode).

This is very helpful. One other person had said driveshaft and seems to be the consensus here as well. I guess that’s the next thing to try. Thanks
