You realize that you're asking on a Ram forum, right? 99% of the guys here are going to replace and old Ram with a new one.
No truck with any kind of power is going to get great mileage, no matter who makes it.

So you got 116K out of the 12 and you're asking the Ram forum what to buy and suggesting a Chevy. I guess I'd join a couple of Chevy forum and ask them about a Ram if I were you.

Personally, I owned a 14 Ram and traded it in on a 19 Laramie because Ram had the ride/looks/performance I wanted in a truck.

Can you get a good one, yup! Can you get a bad one, Yup! They all build good and bad. Personally, drive a couple of the competition and a couple Rams and decide. That's what I did. I'd also buy one from stock and, if possible, from a local dealer so you can drive it and they feel like you are a customer worth having.

I bought from a local dealer with a good reputation for service and drove the truck a fair bit before I bought it. They went over 300 miles to get the one I wanted. I did find a couple issues after I bought it, they took it in the next day and fixed everything. What better could you expect.

When my 2014 2500 was totaled I looked at all the trucks being offered and decided on another Ram.

Why?

1. Personal experience with Ram trucks
2. Personal experience with GM & Ford trucks
3. Comfort
4. Available option packages
5. Ergonomics
6. Aesthetics
7. Incentives, rebates & final price

I was wondering this because of all the complaints I read on here, I buy to keep and run into the ground but I take care of my Vehicles and I use them for what the are intended to be used for! My next fixes are the washer pump has stopped spraying my NAV has gone black, and My seat is ripped so I have some fixing to do, I do think in this day and age trucks today should get better gas mileage then 13mpg. Like mine in the city

I love my ram I had a 13 5.0 f150 liked it 17mpg 16 Sierra elevation 20mpg was nice now my 18 ram 4x4 crew cab 3.21 5.7 gears 24 mpg but I drive all highway. I've driven and owned the big 3. The ford is quicker, ram rides better and in mho looks the best the gm products are so so but I can say I imagine the new 10sp with the 6.2 is a beast but haven't experienced it. My vote ram. And I a ford guy at heart.

Go to any forum from any brand, you will read complaints. Lots of them; about every small imperfection to major repair. Every vehicle has something.

Secondly, your truck is paid off. Park it. Use it as a truck when you need a truck. Buy a used small car and enjoy good mileage while dickering around in the city without the gas penalty or major payments... parking will be much easier, too.

You will not get better mileage driving in the city with a new truck and you will have payments on top of that. Buy it because you want it, just don’t expect the hopes and dreams of 24mpg unless you’re doing 55 at sea level in the middle of summer with a tail wind both ways on the interstate...

Also - price a Ram and then a similarly equipped F150. Not even close - Ram is much cheaper- at least in June when i got mine and you could get them 20 -25 % off sticker.

Most folks only hit up forums when something is wrong.

Only you can decide what you really want. I would suggest to go out and look & drive the one's you might be interested in. I never suggest what someone should purchase...

Those fixes, plus a tune-up, are going to cost a fraction of the price of a new truck. At just over 100K your truck should have a lot of life left. Just my thoughts though.

Yes, I have thought of that too, but I use my truck everyday maybe not to pull things around until Summertime. I use it to pull my boat, but for now, it is way overkill. Later on will be a bigger boat but still, it will be overkill then. I will keep this truck not much wrong with it at all! I do not want to cause myself a phenomenon that causes an unlucky event by talking about my truck here! LOL

I think though if I would get a new one down the road I would get a 2500 8ft bed just because I don't see column shifting in 1500

If I had to buy another truck today it would be a Ram or Ford. And actually Ram would win because I really like the interior of the Ram. GM interiors are so far behind the times, it's pathetic.

I've been switching back and forth between the two for about 15 years now and both have been great trucks. I usually switch before a big change in whatever I'm driving so I go with the other brand to get a "new" dashboard to look at.

I personally think it's luck of the draw.

I look for simplicity in repair because you will be fixing it.

Go on forums for each brand and see what the big issues are and go from there.

I had a Chevy with no issues, my ram has been fairly trouble free. I buy used vehicles so I look for best overall value.

My water pump failed at 58,000km. My buddy has an f150 and his water pump failed at 65,000km.

Toyota tends to have amazing reliability from what I have heard but it depends on who you speak with. I'm sure there are lots of people that have issues with them.

Every brand will have it's issues some more than others. It also depends on luck. I've driven trucks my entire life and Dodge has been the best truck for me. And remember you're driving a truck, your not going to get 25+ MPG.

The forums are a good place to get ideas on how to fix something or at least get an idea, but I like to see what everyone is talking about. I am still waiting for Didge to make a really efficient gas or electric truck! I am telling you their sales would fly as long as it was affordable! I just hope my truck last awhile at least 200k I get offers all the time 15k they want my truck! The truck I would pick would 60k so that 15k would do nothing. I always wonder how many trucks are left over from all over the US from dealers of last years models, I just can't believe so any people buy vehicles every day!

My 2014 1500 Big Horn just turned 50K miles and has been trouble free. Getting due for tires and brakes, but just routine maintenance so far.

First mistake made is buying a pickup truck expecting good fuel mileage. Your truck is paid for and your current mileage isn't that high. Have you priced a new truck equiped like your current truck? Expect sticker shock when pricing new. You might do better getting a newer low mileage used truck.
