Little story about CFT, Joshua Chapman. I've got a buddy that ordered the CFT links (Front&Rear) and ended up totaling his truck before he put them on. Links are still in the original packaging unopened. He called CFT to see if he could return them and the response was "Sorry Bud", Read the website. I get it, it does say it on the site but DAM !! Talk about horrible customer service. There was a few other guys in our group that were going to get some stuff from him but not now. Rant is over, thanks for listening.

That sucks. However; if they say no refunds, that generally means no refunds. It's actually -not- bad customer service to tell the customer ahead of time about something, then stick with what they said. In fact, some would argue it's bad customer service to tell a customer something, then say something else when they ask about it in the future. You should be thanking them for being so transparent.

Sucks about the truck though :( Hope he's okay.

I had a similar thing happen with a Corvette I was restoring many years ago. I had everything together but the exhaust, was trailering it to an exhaust shop and the trailer broke and flipped the car. I was able to return the exhaust system but had to pay a 25% restocking fee.

I figure it's not their fault I totaled my car and while I wasn't super excited about losing 25% of my cash I agreed to their policies when I did business with them. I'd advise your buddy to do the same. List them for sale, take a bit of a loss, and move on. Or, even better, buy a new truck to fit them.

Hate to say it, but honestly I don't see a problem with the site listing their policy up front, then sticking to it.

Now yeah, they could have decided to go back on their policy, but for every hard luck situation, there are a dozen idiots who ordered the wrong part, or blew their budget, or whatever, and try a similar-but-made-up story to dodge the bill.

Sorry for your friend's bad luck, but business is business, we're all grown-assed men, and nobody is being deceived here.

Maybe he can sell the parts here for 80 percent of the original price or so to cushion the hit?

I get it. I also have my own business and policies. I also get a ton of return business and referrals because I try to do what I can to make the customer happy if it dont cost me too much money because I know I will get it back ten fold. Just smart business imo. This is my business self talking but imo CFT could have made a little more money and made the customer at the same time by taking the return and charging a re stock fee. ??

they could... in fact it's preferable to a strict no returns policy. There are times when I'm only 98% sure I ordered the right part, but on occasion it's a big boy (e.g. the grille guard I got awhile back), so I tend to look for return policies that allow returns, and if necessary impose a restocking or shipping fee. This adds peace of mind that at least I won't eat the whole cost and have this monster item sitting around I couldn't easily get rid of.

OTOH, if the only place I can get an item I want/need has a flat no returns policy, well, that's that - I decide and if I take the plunge, I live with the results.

I think it would be ****** customer service IF they took his back but then wouldn't take mine back. I have no problem with them sticking by their policy.

There's a cost to handling returns -- to the sellers and ultimately other customers. Ever stand in a Walmart return line sometime to see return abuse? Customers are always going to promise the product is as "good as new" , or "just one minor scratch or two," even if it comes back with all kinds of scratches and can't be sold as 'new' again. Or, what if it gets lost in the mail on the way back? A lot of screwing around for 1 sale. But I agree, be nice to have a restock fee. Well, put it on this site to sell.

I'm really surprised the big box stores haven't dialed back on their return policies more than they have.

Unfortunately, I agree with fcaemployee and John Jenson. i think from time to time you need to make some exceptions. I get that you may get lots of stories and bs from the few that take advantage but in the end I think how you handle your customers will keep you a small business vs a big one such as Walmart who still put up with bs returns. Don’t kid yourselves Walmart can afford to take all the returns back! They are very profitable. But the companies whom never bend from time to time will always have a bad reputation and people will be more reluctant from dealing or buying from them vs buying from someone whom seems to be customer friendly! Just my opinion and experience.

I get it from the hard liners posting "rules are rules" and i agree to a point. But, chances are high that the people posting that thought process have never had their own business. CFT can run their business as they see fit, my post was merely my personal opinion through years of experience as a small business owner. Customer service is imperative to staying in business. "My" strict rules are that the customer is happy when they leave.. The majority of my business is from referrals and for this reason i will continue with this proven method. Just to clarify, the links were never taken out of the original packaging. At the end of the day its not a huge deal, just differences of opinion.
