What's with all of the hatred for these 2019 Ram's?

My bro in law bought a 2017 Tundra Trd off road.Rides like a freight train.
Tell him to upgrade to Bilstein 5100 series or Fox 2.0 (or 2.5 if has the cash!). That will smooth out the ride!

The new '19 DT Gen 5 chassis are nice trucks. I just really like the aggressive facia on the older DS Gen 4 chassis, especially with sport front facia.

No hatred in Louisiana! I see the 5th gen trucks everywhere and die hard Ford and GM people buying them that would have never considered a Ram previously..

I've owned 5 Dodge trucks in the past and loved all of them! I am driving a Ford now and while it has been a good truck I will be buying a new Ram next year...

Hi All, I just purchased a 2019 1500 Laramie, to me this truck is loaded its got the 25H package and level 1 equipment package the past 10 yrs I've owned a Ford product, I had a F-150 XLT the Ram has a superior ride, I feel like I have more responsiveness, I love the V-8 power and allot more options on this truck, I do enjoy the sound of a rumbling V-8 Hemi again!!!

Nothing like the rumbling of a V-8! It just sounds so damn cool, and is therapeutic to listen to while driving :)

A few days ago I was at my dealer to have a couple things looked at on my Charger. While walking the lot I spotted a Big Horn Black Classic parked right next to the new body style Big Horn Black. Comparing the 2 front ends, the Classic has similar gaps between all the body panels, especially where the hood meets the grill shell. On the new body style, the gap between the hood and the brow is huge. You can fit your finger in it and then some. Not only that, but the way it is designed, the hood looks like it is popped open as it sits above the brow and not flush with it. I don't know how this ever got to production, as it sure looks like 2 panels that aren't installed properly. The grill should have been made larger so that it fits flush with the hood. The hood badges need to go also.
The price difference for the black package between the 2 models is ridiculous. The Classic is 595 compared to 1895 for the new style. The only difference between the exhaust tips are black on the new style. It also includes exterior memory mirrors but they are also part of the Level 2 package, so it is like you pay twice for them.
If anything going to the black appearance should be less money, since chrome costs more. Price out the black badging and emblems on moparonlineparts to see what I mean. They are really doing some price gouging on the DT for the black appearance pak.
After almost 2 years of looking at the new body style, I still prefer the Classic. I'll keep my '16 as long as possible. If I suddenly need a new truck, it will be the Classic. I don't care how nice the new interior is, if I have buyers remorse every time I look at the new front end.

I agree that the DS appearance has more personality but the updates in the DT are worth it IMO. The cab is nicer (and bigger) and the ride is better.

I'm coming from 18 years of Ford trucks ('97 F-150 and an '03 Ford F-250 diesel for the last 11 years) so just about anything is an improvement in technology, comfort, and ride.

I have had an '18 RAM 1500 as a "loaner" the two times my truck has been in for servicing/recalls and it's night and day driving experiences. If RAM had not introduced their "all-new" RAM in 2019 I probably would have been in an F-150 Ecoboost instead of my Bighorn.

Just my .02

Hopefully when the truck gets a styling refresh, they give it more personality.
Since the '94 Ram was introduced, I have instantly liked and wanted each succeeding generation of Ram until the latest version appeared.

I love my Laramie.... the options are amazing. I had a Avalanche I traded in and I was worried about the ride. The Ram Laramie is an outstanding truck.

I said the exact same thing until I drove one (read my post in this thread from September 21...I went to six other dealers and drove nine other trucks until I purchased my new 2019 Lone Star on October 11)...quieter, smoother, snappier, more refined than previous model years. I was worried about warrantly issues with it but to date none and the same with my daughter-in-laws Lone Star. I did have a cross wind noise twice and took it in for inspection but they couldn't replicate it and I haven't heard it since.

I've owned them since 1994 too and feel the 2019 is the best yet.

My feeling on this if you don't like it don't come on here to criticize the all new 2019 beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I Love the looks of mine, had Fords for 15 years this truck is a breath of fresh air.

I absolutely hate mine with the exception of the headlights, the big rear console, and the rear reclining seats. I traded in a '16 1500 crew cab sport 5.7 hemi on a '14 2500 Mega Cab diesel. The diesel couldn't stay on the road for more than a day or 2 without something breaking. I complained to the dealer and begged for my truck back. After multiple attempts of fixing the issues. The dealer didn't want to lose a sale, of course, so they got me into a '19 1500 crew cab laramie 5.7 hemi (we can discuss why I rushed into the '19 another day). I would absolutely take my '16 back every single day, and twice on Tuesday.

Almost 11,000 miles on the '19 and I still feel the same way. Here is a few reasons I dislike it in comparison to the '10, '13, and '16 I've had. Most notably the '16.

-Anytime I open the tailgate, I have to slam it, otherwise I get a notification on the dash that it is open, even when it is not. When it thinks the tailgate is open, the rear cargo light is always on. Even sometimes slamming it doesn't work and it has to be slammed multiple times. Speaking of the tailgate, it is now a button to open, rather than a latch, which probably contributes to the "open tailgate" message.

-A "Laramie" doesn't have bed lights, but the '16 sport did?

-Cargo light won't work unless a door or the tailgate is opened? '16 button allowed it to work at all times.

-Loved the sunroof in my sport, this laramie doesn't have one. (not really a Ram issue, just personal choice)

-Absolutely hate the tow mirrors, the sport had automatic folding mirrors, this laramie doesn't.

-Automatic high-beams shut off for every single f**k**g road sign, or porch light in rural Nebraska with no cars for miles!

-The automatic wipers have a mind of their own, dust will make them go high speed.

-Its a pain in the a*s hooking my boat up because I can't leave the door open while hooking up to it or the park brake locks and won't let me move until the door is shut, truck placed in park, and then back into gear.

-4-8 mpg hauling my boat, FOUR!

-Passenger cannot plug their phone in without it going to "CarPlay," same with one of the two ports in the rear. I do like the CarPlay feature for GPS though, the navigation built-in sucks around here.

-I always left my iPod in my '16 and connected. It didn't matter how long the truck was off, when I turned it back on, the iPod continued right where it left off, in this '19 I have to unplug it, and plug it back in every start of the truck, and it restarts the shuffle.

-Already have a belt squeak sound coming from the engine compartment somewhere when pickup is in gear.

-Brakes are already squealing.

-Paint quality is JUNK! I have not taken this truck on a gravel road once, and it has more rock chips on the factory fender flares with factory tires than the '16 and '14 mega cab with off-road tires combined!

-I can't tell you how many times the front and rear parking sensors THINK they see something and the truck slams into park with the parking brake engaged, damn near giving me whiplash.

-The computer MPG is at least 1.5-3 MPG off of what I actually get. This truck has horrible gas mileage.

I'm sure there's more than this, and to some people these things may not be huge issues, but a lot of them are a big deal to me. The cheaper and better equipped sport was a much better pickup. We've reached the day where so many people buy these trucks for commuting, that they no longer make them for people who actually haul anything more than luggage. As soon as I don't have negative equity, or can find a good enough deal to make up for the negative equity, this thing is GONE!

Unfortunately a lot of this is based on the way each is optioned out. The advantage of Ram is the options, but it also a disadvantage because you have to really know what options you want. It is hard to compare Laramie to Laramie or Big Horn to Big Horn. My old 2016 Express had 5" touchscreen, headliner with overhead console, back up camera, and spray in bed liner, but no bed lights. My Dad's 2017 Express had bed lights, but base stereo, single light headliner, no backup camera, and no bed liner. You can get the panoramic sunroof in big horn or higher trims, but it is an option. I was picking between two Laramie's on the lot the differences were 33 gal gas tank and anti spin diff vs 26 gallon gas tank, open diff, and moon roof. Both trucks cost the same they were just mixing up different specs to meet a price point.

My 2019 Laramie has bed lights because it has the bed utility group and ram boxes.

I do agree with you on the stealing car play thing. I haven't seen that, but was worried how it would handle 4 phones plugged in at once or someone else charging their phone using the built in USB ports since there aren't any cigarette lighter plugs to connect a dumb charger.

My mother-in-laws 2012 Lincoln mkz has automatic headlights with sensitivity adjustments. I think the LED headlights are causing part of the confusion. They are just so bright road sign reflect back like headlights.

Laramie has power folder mirrors if you didn't get the Tow group. For most people the Trailer brake controller is enough.

I would like the bed lights to stay on with the headlights or something.

I feel that my 4th gen would turn on the headlights for 30 seconds after you opened the door to get out not 30 seconds after the truck is off.

Luckily if you don't like the head lights and wipers you can disable them and go back to regular car mode.

I spent two weeks configuring online and looking at dealer inventory online to figure out how to get what I wanted. Fortunately my local dealer had the right truck last time and this time. Based on the options I wanted I needed a Big Horn Level 2 or Laramie Level 1 with 5.7, 3.92, anti-spin, 33 gal, ram boxes, bed utility group, etc. I ended up with a Laramie Level 1.

Doesn't your Laramie have the 12v outlet (cigarette lighter plug) in the small cubby on top of the dash? I haven't seen one that doesn't have this...

That one isn't in the best place. Would be nice to have one in the console somewhere. The other option would be to get charge only USB cables that don't carry data.

I feel that my 4th gen would turn on the headlights for 30 seconds after you opened the door to get out not 30 seconds after the truck is off.

User selectable (0, 30, 60, 120 seconds IIRC) in the Settings (at least with 8.4 in 2015). Same on my '20.

Replaced a 17 w/40k with a 19 classic.
Price point, the fact it wasn't a first year model, and it was a real beauty convinced me to stick with a gen4.
Having owned a new first year model vehicle previously really left an impression. With that said I am hoping that the gen5's get the bugs worked out quickly and wish my brothers and sisters all the best.
Insofar as body style and features go it's all subjective and a personal choice, to each their own.
I've had them all and for my money you won't beat a Ram.

My truck was made in December 2018 when all the options were available for the truck (parts and tooling) and I've had very little issue with mine (mostly software related). It's just my opinion but I think a lot of the problems were at the beginning (up through fall...October-ish of 2018) as I don't think they had all the kinks worked out of the assembly line yet. Sure there are still issues (and what vehicle doesn't) but not as many major problems as the "early release" people (except for maybe the RAM Box). My dad just bought a 2020 Limited (with RAM Box) and it's been great. The A/C even blows cold.

Having owned a new first year model vehicle previously really left an impression.
I'm right there with you on that. Grew up never getting anything the first year in production. Unfortunately my truck was totaled (not my fault) which forced me into the market in the middle of the model year (a June/July accident would have been great for some 2019 close-out deals). I was willing to roll the dice since I was buying a 'late' 2019 and I liked it better than the F-150 and Tundra by a large margin (Nissan and GM were not an option due to personal choice). Had RAM updated the powerplant and/or drivetrain too I probably wouldn't have done it.
