285 or 275 or stick to 265 tires?

Perhaps Brandon got a typo since he said 315 55 R20.
When I was looking for tires I saw a post from a guy running a set of Bridgestones 295 70 R17 which is 33 1/4 " tall (they looked badass). That's the most I had seen on the stock 17x7" wheels

Looks better to me than the mall crawler wannabes with the 6" lift and 35x12.5 on 40" wide wheels :)
Go with a more aggresive thread and some spacers and it should look fairly decent, not counting the new improvements in mpg and performance.
Pizza cutters are not for everybody but they sure work very well.

Pizza cutters are also better in the snow. Not that you care being in Ca. Lol

Well I tried the 255/80r17 couldn't find a tire that I liked ended up dropping down to 245/75r17s;
the wide 20's the truck came with were completely worthless to me for off highway work.

Pizza Cutters... LoL...
For deep snow, you want something like that. They go through the snow, not push it. They don't "float" too well on sand or mud though...

I have 20" wheels and I usually run the 275 65R 20 tires. Through the years, I normally was a dedicated BFG All Terrain TA guy, but I just bought my second set of General Grabber AT/X in that size and I like them very much. These measure 34.1" tall and 11" wide and they work very well on the stock 20" rims with no rubbing.
I measured a 1" 10 1-1/8" gain in ground clearance from these tires vs. the stock Goodyeear crap.

In the past, I did try the 285 65R20 TAs once and they only rubbed on the inside at full lock.
YMMV

275/65r20s. Rims are -18mm offset. No suspension mods.

I plan to upsize from the stock 265/70/17 when I get new tires. Was thinking about going with 275/70/17 due to the 7 inch wide rims. Briefly wondered about a 255 series tire width but am concerned it would look too narrow on the truck.

Would 285/70/17s fit the truck without having to alter the stock suspension? Would you recommend them or should I go for 275s or stick to 265s?

I have 285 65 20's on mine. They fit fine stock but look much better with the Bilsteins struts at 2.1" and 1.5" spacers in the rear.
