I bought my first truck a week ago. It is the Classic.
I bought it mostly because of the discounts and could have been happy with either or really.
Just happy to have a truck after 10 years driving a sedan. And, Ram trucks are just beautiful to me.

Went from a 08 F-150 to a 19 Ram classic.
1. I wanted to basic pick up. I do not need a 10 inch LCD screen. I went to the dealer and told him that I wanted 4 doors, Four wheel drive, and a v8 with a 6ft bed.
2. Price

The 5th gens look ok. They are about as good looking as a Tundra, and a little better than Ford and Chevy.

They squared it up too much. The hood is too flat. The headlight bulges in the fenders too subtle.

The 4th gen still looks badass. The best looking body style of all time. Itll be a sad day when they stop making the 4th gen.

I love the look of my 4th Gen. I agree it is still one of the best looking trucks. I really like the look of the new 5th Gen HD's. I personally think they look awesome. The 5th Gen 1500's, the matching trim color look good on them. If they tweaked the front of the 5th Gen 1500's to look a bit more like the HD's, I think they would look better.

5th gen 1500 looks a lot like a Toyota Tacoma to me. Ram lost its identity with the 5th gen 1500. The new HDs are ok, but I still prefer the classic big rig styling of my 4th gen that traces back to the 1994 ram.

Sometimes changing things just for the sake of changing them or because your competition changes body styles every 2 or 3 yrs is not good.

If it ain't broke dont fix it.

4th gen rams are still the best looking trucks on the road in my opinion.

Reg cab short box /end thread lol

But also, cross hair grill, no start-stop, no lane depature, no automatic braking, etc.

It's basically the last truck available without extra electronic bs to break, but mostly RCSB.

I was set on a 5th gen Ram but I couldn’t find what I wanted in my area at the price range I wanted to pay. Then I came across a dealership who showed me a classic Big horn that had almost everything I wanted except the front center console (I have the 6 seater instead of 5) and it was almost 10k less than the same 5th gens I had seen. I like the look of the 5th gens a little more and I really liked the flat back floor that I don’t have to fold out the floor but for almost 10k none of that was worth it to me.

Im getting a classic because of the Walock, but also they are cheaper, and I don't feel like all the bugs are worked out of the 5th gens.

I'm willing to bet the most common answer is some variation of "value" or "price." I didn't but a Classic. However, I bought a new '18 when '19's were already on the lot. 4th Gen is a great truck. I also am slightly adverse to buying 1st MY. However, 4th Gen ultimately got the nod due to discounts.

In my opinion you just can’t beat the 4th Gen Rams. It’s my 2nd reply but the more I think about it no other truck beats them.

I dislike touchscreens for any kind of control where it isn't absolutely necessary (text input) - a physical knob stays in place and always has the same discrete function, can be located and operated blind and while crossing rough terrain, works as fast as your hand turns or presses it and its position is reported by touch alone so you can keep your eyes on the road.

Interfaces should always minimize cognitive load and touchscreens do not. In addition to that i believe it is cheap and lazy design.

If you compare it to other product categories for example a very high end home audio amplifier will typically have very few baubles and controls, just volume. It's the cheap stuff that has all the blinky lights and graphics all over.

Don’t forget that the Classic fold out floor is perfect for dogs when traveling........the 5th gen doesn’t have that.

When I bought my ‘17 Laramie new, dealer had 18’s and 19’s on the lot too. Made my choice based on:
1) Worst time to buy a brand new model due to higher sticker price and 1st MY issues.
2) Still not wild over the new design
3) Able to save $15,500 off sticker with more standard features and options along with high trade in allowance

The 5th gen that I looked at had a flat floor in the back and no need for the fold out. I would have preferred that but not for the price difference. I have two huskies so the room in the back seat is important and the fold flat floor works fine but a flat floor without it would have been better imo.
