...I just bought a 2019 blacked out 1500 classic with single cab, v6 and towing package...looks way cool and besides price I preferred single cab as newer gen standard cabs very hard to find...

@Docwagon1776

I can not disagree with you. My point is also nailed in with your comment.

Trucks have always looked the same. Then, as you said the 94 Dodge Ram went for a bold look. And, then, everyone started copying RAM.

So now today all the trucks look the same again.

But RAM used this to their advantage this time.

Plenty of people who have jumped ship have said the deciding factor is the loss of (their words not mine) dumb big rig look and stupid crosshair grille.

Was RAM supposed to go bigger on the big rig look...gosh, I am glad they didn't.

They made a more refined and better RAM, and it is selling well and did exactly what they wanted...take market share from GM and raise the avg transaction of a pickup truck.

They succeeded and still thought enough about their customers to keep the 4th Gen for the faithful and for the Regular Cab guys

As soon as they work out the regular cab...the new thread will be very interesting to see how many here change their mind.

That said. I would buy a classic today of a 1500 could do what I need...but I sure wouldn't pass up on a 5th Gen because someone thinks it looks like a Toyota.

Just curious what factors motivated you to buy a Ram Classic instead of a 5th gen?

They actually look like a RAM, not a Chevy, not a Ford...
I was actually at FCA HQ a few months ago and when I walked up to get into my 2016 Ram, I said to my son who was with me, "That flippin' Chevy pickup parked way to close to me for you to get in the truck easily". As we got closer to the two trucks, its was actually a new generation Ram I thought was a Chevy... That should NEVER HAPPEN...

- Hate the non-removable model badging in the hood...
- Hate the big R A M on the grill (same issue with the big tailgate R A M on the Rebel models)
- Looks too similar to all the other US trucks on the road.
- Nice interiors; not a good enough reason to buy one due the outside looks though.
- Hate the tail lights (the actual lit-portion is too small/skinny).
They look "plastic"...

The classics have just enough chrome, in the right places (the Sport models are even better). Nice "chin" to the front end. Sexy curves where needed. Not boring/the same old same old...
Of course, YMMV....

Plenty of people who have jumped ship have said the deciding factor is the loss of (their words not mine) dumb big rig look and stupid crosshair grille.

And that's fine as well. I'm not yelling your fun is wrong, I just like the dumb big rig look and stupid crosshair grill. I like to shift my own gears, too, but the market is killing that off as well (and I have an automatic in my current truck and have survived) I'm also not interested in a screen in my dash, as I don't get the point. I think some folks here, at least one who claims to be 67 years old, is taking it a bit too far for those who disagree with his particular desires.

The truth is I could go write a check for a new truck tomorrow if I chose to do so, but I don't like them as well. Same for my '11 Camaro SS (which I do get to shift my own gears in). I could "upgrade" to the current gen but ick, no thanks. The 5th Gen is a gorgeous retro-modern machine while the new ones look like a Euro-Mustang hybrid of some sort. And, of course the Mustang is now going to include an electric station wagon it it's lineup. Personally, I'd rather be driving a '78 Lil Red Express or a '75-ish Ford Highboy then a brand new Ram of any kind for most of what I do, but my wife threatened to kill me in my sleep if I didn't give up "old junk" after I sold my last '75, so retro-modern is what's left to me.

Ya - I prefer the 4th Gen--but if I had to buyy a new one I would stay with Ram even if it was a 5th gen-but its nice to know you can still get the classic body-for how long -who knows-and I would assume the new interiors would be in the 4th body style. My 2012 is running strong and looking nice enough for me!!!

I got my classic because, I like this style better, massive 25% year end discounts, couldn't find these colors on other styles, the 2020s with squared off front now look like ford & gmc trucks. Had reasonable level of technology in it, stylish 20" wheels and came with at least a vynal toneau cover to hold me over a couple of yrs till I get a hard one, I plan on getting a 6x10ish cargo trailer to haul one of my motorcycles in to go on exploration trips and my caravan wasn't best suited for that. What's not to like about a classic?

Awesome looking truck. That looks badass!

The 5th gen is "more refined and better" in the same way a bearded manbun wearing hipster, sucking on his vape pen next to his Prius, is more refined and better.

His opinion of whats more refined and better may not be the same as mine.

I do love my new 2019 Ram 5th Gen. The new sport hood certainly looks better than the standard hood and that's another reason I like it. Interesting you mentioning a 78 Lil Red Express because I own a restored 79 Lil Red, Restored 71 Plymouth Road Runner, 1989 Dakota Sport Factory Convertible and a 2005 Dodge SRT 10 Viper Commerative Edition Truck with the six speed manual Hooking the 525 hp V-10 to the rear 456 gears in the differential . My wife Drives a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit . As you can see l am a Mopar guy. If you haven't driven a new 5th gen Ram you should and you can feel the difference between it and the 4th R

I got a 2019 Classic Warlock full load (stock Suspension suspension and tires) for 40000$ Canadian (30000$ US). In Canada, they give you 25% off on regular price so it’s very interesting. Only down side is gas... with winter tires = 20.5 L/100km (11.5MPG) and with summer tires 18.5 L/100km (12.5MPG)...it’s really

I just bought a Classic two days ago. I wanted the fifth gen styling, but the classic was marked off $11K and it didn't make sense to buy anything else

I went and looked at them when my dealership bribed me with a $50 Amazon gift card to come test drive something. It's different. But in any measure that I care about? Nope. The incremental improvements are of no value to me in the slightest. While giving up the aesthetics I like? Yup. I didn't even bother to drive it and drove a Grand Cherokee instead.

40k plus taxes for the warlock? That's a pretty good deal. Is it a hemi? All the warlocks I see here are all 3.6 pentastar motors.

Is that the mileage you're getting? 20.5Lwinter and 18.5L summer?

  1. I like the look of the classic MUCH better, and both 5th gens I drove (lariat and big horn) blew LUKEWARM air!!! Then I stumbled across this 11 Big Horn Hemi Crew 4x4 with 14K miles and game over. When (if) I DO trade up it'll be for a 19 Classic. By 2025 they'll have all the bugs worked out oif the "new" 19s, and maybe a styling change. It'll be hard to beat the looks of this 2011 tho.
View attachment 187809
I can't agree with you more, the air on the Lariat does suck, but then what do you expect, that's a Ford, , Ram makes the Laramie.....

Because it is what they want?
Egads, what a novel concept, folks spending their money on things they actually want.

Yes, 40000$ plus 15% taxes. I got the V6 and it’s full load with the console in the middle. Only thing is that it have the RA2 5 inches radio (Uconnect but no nav).

As for the gas, it suck pretty bad. My 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with a 2.5 inch lift and 35 inch tires was doing better then that. But the Ram is way more comfortable

O well , don't know what they showed you but if you didn't drive it you can't know how they handle. I don't know if you haul loads or pull heavy trailers with your truck or if you just use it as a commuter vehicle . But if you pull trailers or haul loads my 2019 new from the ground up truck will outperform your truck and all other Gen 4 1500 Rams. It has to do with the redesigned drivetrain, suspension and strongest frame of any previous Ram 1500. The Hemi with the eight speed transmission hooked to the 392 differential with e-locker helps Cary the load. O and the ride and Handeling of the New Ram 1500 unloaded also outperforms the 4th gen with a smoother and way much quieter ride. I'm not just saying this without being able to back it up from experience because I had a 2010 Laramie and a 2013 Loaded Limited and a 2015 Loaded Laramie so I know the difference in ride and handling.

Without disputing any of that, again I don't care. It apparently makes you happy to constantly chase incremental upgrades. Enjoy. I am not caught up in that. There'll be something even more more betterer in a few years and you can then chase that one. I'll probably still be in my truck has exactly what I want without a lot of the stuff the new ones do that I don't.

The next check I write will probably be for a mid-engine Corvette. That's something interesting. Give them 4-5 years to figure out where the inevitable bugs are and that fun-to-dollar ratio will be excellent.
