Good info, thanks! I didn't know about the kit from Innovited but I'll have to check those out, if my LEDs end up letting me down within the next few years I could see giving a kit like that a chance. How long have you had them in your truck?

I actually did go with the Hikari Ultras for my lows/highs and am pleased with them as I think they are close to the HIDs I've had in the past. I've also been using alfaobd for the past few days and going through and updating things over to LEDs, although the highs and lows never gave me an issue but just figured I might as well. I had some fog lights that I installed that were fine for 2 weeks and then started to flicker, changed that over with alfaobd and so far they've been flawless again. What a handy tool! Also had to visit the fog light dropout function and fix that, nice to have lows/highs and fogs all going without having to hold the handle!
The only reason I tried the innovited was curiosity and cost. I was curious to see how I perceived the light of a 5000k bulb vs the 5500-6000k of the Ultras. The Hikari Ultras in the lows were really good too.

The only thing I might try later on down the line is 55w Innovited HIDs, but I've heard from another forum member that they weren't impressed. If I'm not mistaken the 55w has more stuff to try to fit in the headlight housing as well.

That's cool, I checked them out and will definitely keep them in mind. Would you say the performance between the innovited and ultra's were comparable? Or are the HIDs noticeably better?

Comparable, color was about the only difference. Here's a post I made with a few pictures for comparison...good discussion in that thread on lighting.

Good to know, and nice comparison pictures as well. I've definitely been happy with the ultras so far but had spent a few months with the stock halogens between my last hid kit and trying the ultras, so wasn't sure how accurate my memory was serving me for how they compared.

At this point I was over and done with HIDs after having regular problems with them over the years. So if the led's can make it 2 years without having a problem, they win for me.

I've had my Morimotos, installed by RetroShop, for almost 5 years. Never a single issue.

I test drove my '20 Laramie the other night with the reflector LEDs. I prefer my Morimotos. I think the LEDs are about as bright, but there is some banding and they are like 6000K. I much prefer a warmer color temp; I have 4500K in my Morimotos.

You sir have had much better luck than I have then. I also had a morimoto kit from retroshop, went two years before having issues which is officially the longest I've gone trouble free with HIDs. Jeremy and retroshop were awesome in terms of support and backing up their product, but maybe I just have horrible luck with HIDs in general. As mentioned earlier, if my LEDs that I installed recently should let me down, I'd probably give the innovited's a try that sitkneelbend mentioned and see if the all contained style could be more reliable for me.

I haven't driven any new 5th gens yet (by design, don't really want to drive one and get tempted til I'm ready for my next upgrade in a few years), but have heard they are pretty good. I would be happy to just not have to mess with them myself with aftermarket stuff, so if they pretty good from the factory I'd leave them alone for once.

The 5G LED reflectors are the best factory headlights I have ever owned other than my Mercedes CLS.

I would be very interested to see how good the factory projectors are. I might consider swapping to them depending on what cost would be involved. I would have gotten them if they were an option but they're only available on the Laramie Longhorn and Limiteds and both those models are incompatible with my requirements.

I've heard from a few others that they were impressed with the new generations lighting as well. Currently I've owned 2 sports and now a longhorn, undecided as to my next trim level. I'd love to stay with the longhorn (love the cattle tan/black interior for something different), but not sure I'll be able to do that. I'd like to avoid the first MY, but then starting in 2020 they force the etorque on the longhorn/limiteds and I really don't care for all of that. Guess we will see in another few years, exterior wise I think the laramie sport looks great so I could see looking for one of those as well (although those new limited black outs are pretty nice looking too, but no air ride for me ever!).

Haven't seen anyone attempt the headlight swap on the 5th gens yet, but surely it's coming or maybe already has been done.

Overall... I Love My 2016 Ram1500 Big Horn. This is my 3rd RAM, prior to that owned 2 Durango's and 2 Dakota's, first car/vehicle I ever owned was a 70 Challenger R/T. If at all possible my next Truck will also be a Ram..... BUT there are a couple things that I've had an issue with:

1. UConnect - Totally SUCKS. RAM blames Uconnect and UConnect Blames RAM or Apple, etc. Worst interface I've seen ever since it was first added to Dodge Vehicles. This has been an issue with all of the RAMS I have Owned and now same issue with my Wife's 2019 Jeep.

2. Radio and NAV Mp updates. Why did I pay to have my NAV enabled if I have to pay another $150.00 or so every other year to keep it up to date?

3. Front Brake Rotors and the amount of brake dust that gets all over your wheels. Can Wash my truck and same afternoon, brake dust galore.

4. Front & Rear park assist sensors. Don't let it rain or those puppies go off constantly

5. Driver Side Sunvisor lights - Worked for the first month I owned my truck and never since. I seriously doubt both bulbs gave up the ghost after 3 months.

6. Driver Side Power windows/mirrors/locks switch assembly. Switches break way too easily. I am not the incredible hulk but am on my third replacement of the assembly

7. Most irritating.... I have a 2016 for goodness sake... Why aren't there any Factory OEM LED Headlights out there???

what pets my peeves...

factory projectors? + incandescent? = really? tsk tsk Ram. horrible lighting.

alpine system in general. sound quality, lack of adjustment (eq), lack of max volume, lack of ability to upgrade / add subs with NORMAL audio components/amps/speakers etc

factory head unit/nav. there should be a hack/flash available to update the older models to have the newer features (ie. android auto)
rear door lock actuators. glad I have warranty on my 2015 Longhorn until Nov 2023. I suspect these will be replaced at least 4 more times by then.

air suspension + cold weather = problems

tpms + cold weather = problems

I wish both of the above could be shut off so every time I start the truck I don't have to scroll screens to clear the 'service messages'. it'd be great to totally turn off tmps sensors all together.

weak tie rod ends and control arm bushings (glad about ext warr on these as well)

can't fold down back of rear seat in crew cab. can only fold lower up.

3.21's (nuff said) I didn't get the truck new but they are few and far between around here

I hate that my antenna is bright silver on my dark red and black Warlock.

I need to plastidip the thing...
I used black heat shrink as per the guidance of another forum member. Holds up great!

I haven’t had an issue with mine. Maybe I’m lucky? I’ve been pretty impressed with it but, we’re talking a 16 year model to an 18 year model...
2. Radio and NAV Mp updates. Why did I pay to have my NAV enabled if I have to pay another $150.00 or so every other year to keep it up to date?
Uconnect updates should be free but I agree with you on the map updates. Those should be free as well, if not a whole lot cheaper. Even Garmin updates back when they were actually charging for them weren’t even that expensive and they had a whole lot more information.

But even with or without Apple car play or that android connect, I don’t even use my nav. It’s so much easier and always up to date to just use my phone for my routing than that onboard navigation.

3. Front Brake Rotors and the amount of brake dust that gets all over your wheels. Can Wash my truck and same afternoon, brake dust galore.
It’s a pickup, not a sports car so why expect so much from basic parts? The only gripe I have with mine is that they stick a little bit and make a slight noise when coming to a complete stop but other than that, I guess I just wash my pickup too often to really notice any major brake dust build up.

But if you want better brakes that perform better and don’t dust everything, that’s why we have the aftermarket to taylor them however we like.

My brakes have been fine but I still plan to update the pads and rotors to something much better just because I guess I just realize that factory parts are just that; factory parts.

4. Front & Rear park assist sensors. Don't let it rain or those puppies go off constantly.
I get rain on mine all the time. It’s when they ice over is when mine act up.

5. Driver Side Sunvisor lights - Worked for the first month I owned my truck and never since. I seriously doubt both bulbs gave up the ghost after 3 months.
I take it you never got the dealer involved in fixing them if you say they worked for the first month and never since??....hmm.

6. Driver Side Power windows/mirrors/locks switch assembly. Switches break way too easily. I am not the incredible hulk but am on my third replacement of the assembly.

You sure about that?? Damn, it’s only plastic. Ya gotta be easy with that ****. It don’t take that much effort to lightly hit a switch to roll the window up and down.
7. Most irritating.... I have a 2016 for goodness sake... Why aren't there any Factory OEM LED Headlights out there???
Well if it makes ya feel any better, I have a 2018 Limited with no LED’s. Well, I do now because I added them. Go getcha some.

I’m just going out on a limb here but basing my experience off some aftermarket projector headlights I bought for my old 2008 I had, I would imagine that Ram buys those headlights with whatever bulbs the factory that makes them preinstalls in them.

But even a good set of Silverstar Ultras is difference of night and day(no pun intended) in those factory projectors. Go get ya some and be happy. I was real happy with the Silverstar XdE’s or whatever they were called but I had heard so much rave about HID’s and LED’s that I hooked myself up with a set and couldn’t be happier.

alpine system in general. sound quality, lack of adjustment (eq), lack of max volume, lack of ability to upgrade / add subs with NORMAL audio components/amps/speakers etc
I figured for a factory system that it was pretty impressive. But there is an EQ. Not a major 5 or 7 step one like on a high-end system but there is one.

But that lack of max volume is more of a protection than anything. When most people want louder, they go aftermarket. That’s just been the law of the land for since forever.

But upgrading the factory system isn’t hard at all. I just simply upgraded my dash speakers, my rear roof speakers and the rear door speakers that are as clear as bell. My system doesn’t sound muddy like it did before. And I can crank it up enough to rival a lot of fancy, higher-end aftermarket systems that a lot of people pay a lot of money for.

Adding my JL Audio stealthbox and amp to the factory system under the rear seat was a breeze as well. I just ran a power wire from my battery to the amp, and used the factory rear sub wiring as my feed to the amp. Ran a remote power knob to the amp to my kick panel in the floorboard to control the volume. Piece of cake. JL Audio was real helpful in the setup. Had to lose my under seat floor but that was no big loss. I’d rather have thump than that. Lol.

factory head unit/nav. there should be a hack/flash available to update the older models to have the newer features (ie. android auto)
I agree. But then they wouldn’t sell as many new cars if they did that. Lol.

Sounds like you got some bad ones.

air suspension + cold weather = problems
Unfortunately, if they wish to still sell vehicles with air ride technically, and actually had a more reliable system in cold weather, they’d be so expensive that no one would buy them.

tpms + cold weather = problems.

I wish both of the above could be shut off so every time I start the truck I don't have to scroll screens to clear the 'service messages'. it'd be great to totally turn off tmps sensors all together.
Like?

weak tie rod ends and control arm bushings (glad about ext warr on these as well)
This is news to me.

can't fold down back of rear seat in crew cab. can only fold lower up.
Just curious but why is this an issue?

3.21's (nuff said) I didn't get the truck new but they are few and far between around here

I’m confused... is this a gripe or a praise??

I'm currently having to ignore my TPMS light. They just set the lower limit too high. What if I don't want to air the back tires up to 80?

It happened last year during the first cold spell, too. One of these days, I'll get my PIN and lower the threshold with Alfa.

I take it you have a 3/4-ton or 1-ton? That’s the only thing I can think of why it’s set that high.
