I finally got around to installing the Phillips Ultra bulbs today. I noticed my driver's side headlight lens is cracked. I got whacked with a piece of retread a few weeks back and noticed it gouged my bumper a little bit (touch up paint already applied) but the crack to the headlight didn't stand out because it paralleled one of the "seams" the lens has naturally.

Anywho, aftermarket replacement, suck it up and buy new OEM, or scrapyard? I have the dual bulbs, not the quad bulbs. I've read a bit about the aftermarket ones not being up to par with an OEM, but don't know how much difference there actually is.

On a side note, I didn't have to take my grill off. I did loosen the top so I could bend it out a little and make getting my socket back a little easier, but with two extensions I could reach the bottom bolt with no issue. I just couldn't get my socket back off after reinstallation. (I'd put some electrical tape on the bolt head so as to not drop it on the way down)

I've got Perde aftermarket housings in my '09 and don't see an issue with them. I did run a bead of silicone around the lens just because of reading a few issues her with condensation. Been on there almost a year now with no issues.

If you want to go to quads over the duals, I've got my old ones sitting in a box in the garage with the bulbs still in them. Could use some polishing on the lenses, but they work fine. From what I recall, the change over is simple.

If quads will fit and are easily made to work, I would just upgrade with oem quads.

I haven't had good luck with aftermarket assemblies over the years, the light output pattern was never right - but it wasn't on a Ram

From what I've read you can install quads but the hi and lo beam won't stay on at the same time like they are supposed to if the truck originally came with duals. You can get around that with some splice-n-dice but I'm not really interested in doing that. Most of my driving doesn't involve hi beams anyway so I don't think I'd gain that much.

I found an OEM used one on Ebay for $40 shipped so I'm going that route. Thanks for everyone's input.

That will work, the reason I suggest quads is there is a really easy bulb upgrade for both low and high beams vs. not much for the duals.

The Phillips Ultra bulbs I installed are noticeably brighter. Not 'holy crap I need sunglasses at night' by any stretch, but they are a better. I think I need to adjust my lights up a bit. I know somebody on here commented that a leveling kit was the best upgrade they ever did for their lights...
