has the rear axle been modified? there seems to be some control arms that are attached to the housing. haven't seen that before. I want a set!

it is to prevent axle wrap. not like i would expect to see that much in a 2wd but if it had a 440 it might have been setup for racing. you sometimes see people do it to 4x4 diesel trucks that have the lift blocks to keep the axle from twisting.

yeah, I think the old C10 chevys came with control arms and coil springs. always wished old dodges had them, I want them. but don't think my truck will be making enough power to justify the work/expense to add them.

my elcamino has the setup your talking about and i hate it. the back end rolls way too much when taking corners aggressively. would rather have leaf springs any day of the week. at least i know how the back end is going to move with them. the coils can be unpredictable.

This truck was definitely built for the strip by the original owner. Traction bars are a great way to get power down, and keep the rear planted. I'll be doing a 4 link with the air set up, so those bars and shocks will be up for sale this spring.

have you tried swapping rear coils to progressive type? My elco didn't have rolling issues. of course, I did have thicker sway bars on the rear lower control arms.

i have no clue what type they are but they are chromed so was really not wanting to replace them. i do have the rear sway bar. my elcamino was built to be a show car. had a stock 350 and open differential when i bought it. at least it has 3.23 gears and a LSD now. hard to decide if i should go after modding the engine or swapping out the trans next.

I'm assuming th350 or 400? depending on condition and your goals, those trans are bullet proof. consider adding a gearvendors OD tail section instead of a newer OD trans if cost comes out the same. the GV OD is a solid part and most can be fitted at home. that's my plan for wife's Chevelle. just rebuilt the th350, once up and running, will likely swap out the tailsection for a GV OD.

pretty sure it is a th350 but not sure what shape it is in. when i dropped the pan what i found looked bad and required a fluid flush but has been ok since. was thinking 200R4 so i can hopefully keep the chrome driveshaft. if i have to get a driveshaft cut i would probably just go with 700R4. cheaper than GV OD and would do the same job

the frame was essentially the same from 1972 until the last ram d150. the shape of some of the cross members are different but dimensions are essentially identical.
