I've been reading a ton of posts lately on here but cannot find anything that fully answers this.

I'm finally looking to get a new vehicle and coming from my '02 4Runner. It still runs well but thinking about handing it down to my child and , frankly, I'm probably due for a new vehicle.

I really like the new 5th Gen 1500's. They look great. I'm torn between a 2019 vs 2020 Limited. I just can't really see a difference and the discounts being given on the 2019 seem great.

Can someone enlighten me as to what are the major differences between the two other than the model year?

Thanks for the help

Major differences? Not much considering 2019 was the first year of a redesign. With the limited specifically, a few differences come to mind though. The 2020 limited offers a blacked out edition, that has everything color matched in black rather than chrome, and offers the sport hood as well. Also, if you do not want etorque, you would be forced to go with the 2019 model as starting in 2020 it's no longer an option to get a longhorn/limited without it.

Someone else may know of some other ones but those are the biggest changes I recall.

Perhaps double-check, if you can, what you are labelling as a discount. The '19 is a model year old, so the price reflects at least part of that depreciation. If your plan is to keep it a very long time, the loss of value won't really catch up in any meaningful way. If you can get a '20 for anywhere near the price of the '19, that's what I'd be looking for. $0.02

Thanks, I appreciate the information. I honestly don't know if I want eTourque as I wasn't familiar with it. I guess I need to check it out. Thanks fo rnew things to search on.

I hadn't even thought of this. That's a really good point. I usually keep my vehicles a pretty long time. i.e. My 4Runner is an '02 (that I bought in 2001) that I'm the original owner of.

The 2020 adds split tailgate, and now the ECO diesel.

Thanks...

In my mind, I like the split tailgate though looking around at dealerships none seem to have it. The ECO diesel I think I'm going to stay away from.

FYI split tailgate is not available unless you get a CC...??? I do not cease to be amazed at the really strange prerequisites that RAM imposes on its owners.
It isn't just Ram. Nissan started making the sunroof a requirement of the utilitrack bed management system.

For someone like you who keeps a vehicle that long, get whatever has the options you want since the money won't matter long term. And keep the 4 runner as they won't give you 50 cents for what it's worth!

Hell, look at GM; that goofy 30-way tailgate of theirs they been blathering about in all their commercials is so far only on the GMC model and only on the upper trim levels. At least with Ram, your can get it in all trim levels. Not sure about the crew-cab requirement. Don’t know why that would matter.

Man, that’s a crock of ****. I just looked and sure enough, you’re right. Wonder what crawled up their asses to behoove them into thinking that’s a great idea to do that? I guess they really don’t wanna sell as much of the upper-ended trucks.

Yeah I really wish I was mistaken on that, that forces me to rethink my plan of getting a 2020 in a few years. I also wish I knew why they felt the need to do that, they probably consider it a luxury but I'm just not interested in having that at all.

I hate that you can't get the split tailgate with two tone paint.

I really want to keep the 4Runner, and I probably will, but my wife is pushing for me to get rid of it to save the money on insurance and registration. We’ll see.

Surprisingly, I’ve been offered about $5k for it many time’s. People want it for their kids.

Was the 2019 2500 AT stock tire a Firestone Transforce? I'm looking at the new ram configurator and I noticed the AT tire is more expensive and it's the Firestone Destination AT. Anybody know about these?

Edit, nevermind the 2019 also had the destination tire.

I used Firestone Destinations on my Titans, they were pretty good overall tires and lasted the whole 50k miles. My Ram came with Falkens and so far I really like these tires, they are pretty quiet but seem to have really good grip.

That's good to hear, especially if it's a stock tire albeit an upgraded one.
