Just got home tonight after a 9 day road trip with my 2017 2500 Cummins. I didn't tow anything and the only load in the truck was me & the Mrs with our luggage and a cooler or two.

The first leg started in Portland OR and continued through Boise ID, Provo UT, Flagstaff AZ and ended in Phoenix AZ. That leg started on 11/29 and we arrived in Phoenix on 12/2.

After most of a week of running around in the Phoenix metro area with all those crazy drivers at high rates of speed, I put the wife on a plane Friday and I headed back to Portland via truck the next day. This time the route was from Phoenix to Apache Junction to Wickenburg AZ, on to Kingman, through Las Vegas, St. George UT, Salt Lake City, Boise and eventually I ended up back in Portland. I left Phoenix on 12/7. I can be a Road Warrior when needed.

Both of those routes have some significant elevation changes and freeway speed limits ranging from 65 MPH to 80 MPH. I made best use of the Cummins power to cruise up and over those hills with ease and at the posted speed limits. I admit I rode it hard and put it away wet but the Ram didn't seem to care.

My total fuel usage for the entire trip was 158.19 gallons. I traveled a total of 3370 miles and even though I had quite a bit of around town driving I still managed a respectable 21.3 miles per gallon.

The truck ran flawlessly the entire trip.

I used to get fuel mileage of 20+ on the highway with my 2011 2500 Cummins when it was tuned with the H&S Mini Maxx but since having it retuned with an Ezlynk 50 hp tow tune I generally get between 18 - 19. I think the standard gear ratio of the 2017 Cummins is a 3.42/1 and my 2011 is running 3.73/1 gears, and that is probably why you are getting better mileage. Either number, for a 4 ton beast that isn't bad at all. Is your 2017 a 4x4? If not that will make a little difference also.

That's pretty good numbers. I'm around ~18.5 mpg in my stock mega cab with 35's on a trip like that but I tend to drive 75-80 which kills the mpg.

My 2006 5.9 mega cab got slightly worse mileage then my 2016 does even with all the emissions. I've never been able to achieve some of the high mpg numbers I see some people get? I drive very conservatively as well. (other then the high speeds but that's just to keep up with traffic)

I'm using EFI Live tunes tweaked by Kory Willis on an Edge Insight CTS 2 platform. I had the CSP switch on position 3.

Yeah, 2WD makes a huge difference on these trucks for mpg. Have you hand calculated to see how close the meter is? Mine is always a good 2+ mpg higher then true hand calculated.

it is cold in Finland
I use a winter cover to keep water and oil temperatures above 200 degrees for best mileage.
my Hour meter says it took 127 hours to reach 8060 miles, that means my life time average speed is 64 mph!
I drive 70 to 75 mph on highway, long trips only.
my other car that i use for local driving including highway has averaged 23 mph in the last 2000 miles
