Checked other threads on brake pedal probs that were kinda like mine....very discouraging.....

I've got a 1999 2500 with 90K miles. Runs great!! And the brakes work absolutely perfectly.

But...when the temp outside goes below 40 degrees or so, my brake pedal will not return fully. When the pedal is depressed for braking and released, it returns to this "sticky" position about 1/2 inch (or less) of travel from normal position. In this position, the brakes remain lightly applied and the brake lights stay lit. Quick toe lift of the pedal, and away we go.

Thankfully, this truck is not a daily driver and doesn't get used very often. When I do use it, I have gotten real good at left foot toe lifts under the pedal which gets the job done...but it is a nagging issue.

What say? Anyone experienced this temperature related brake problem?

Thanks, Keppie

I have not experienced this personally. I would suspect that possibly old grease or lubricant on the pivot points of the pedal assembly might be stiffening up in the colder temps and preventing the pedal from returning fully. Take a look at the brake pedal assembly up under the dash and under the master cylinder under the hood and clean the pivot points with some break clean, then lubricate them with some silicon spray lubricant or WD-40.

See if that corrects the problem.

Both my 98 and 99 do that and does not matter how cold or hot it is
