48' gooseneck living quarters race trailer, brakes set on heavy electric, gain on 10. The brakes don't work as well as my prior truck (Chevy). Just rolling I would manually apply the trailer brakes and it would stop quickly, with this truck it slowly comes to a stop. At speed it slows down because the exhaust brake works so well but stop and go traffic it gets scary. Wondering if its just my truck or is that all its got? 2019 dually crew cab, 6.7.

This was an issue back in 2015 as well. Back then they came out with a flash for the computer to correct it. I ran a prodigy for awhile due to the factory controller not being up to *****. See what the dealer has to say. They will probably look at you like your hair is on fire. At least you get the ball rolling.

I am towing a 15k pound fifith wheel and I had the same issues. I had a 3500 silverado before and the brakes were pretty good. Now with the RAM, the suck really bad, even when maxed out on heavy elctric and set at 10. Decided to cut to the chase and went and installed the progidy P# with the RAM harness adapter. 10 minute install, and holy cow do I have brakes now!

I am only pulling about 6000# travel trailer with mine but with the built-in controller set on 5, I get plenty of stopping power. my trailer does have 4 wheel electric brakes tho.

I spoke with the service manager and he looked at me like I had 2 heads, hes never heard of it. I just got it in October and only went to the track twice but it needs to be addressed before spring. Even my 18' open trailer the brakes didn't work that well. I just moved a few cars this week with my 93 F250 with an old Tekonsha in it and the it stops like it should.

Just curious here, you all were referring to factory brake controller not stopping well? Do you know if it's a time-based or a proportional type? My truck didn't come with one so I'm thinking about a factory one vs an aftermarket one to put in my new truck. I prefer the proportional type.

I dropped the truck off this morning because the key fobs and tire pressure monitor stopped working. I told the service writer about the trailer brakes. He claims he never heard of this. My sons friend works at this dealership saw me and came over. He said don't forget to tell them how bad the trailer brakes suck. We will see what happens but Im guessing I will have an aftermarket unit soon.

The RAM factory controller uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) on the trailer brakes. Some trailer brakes do not respond well to the rapidly vary voltage. A Tekonsha P3 will work pretty well but you need to adjust boost and max voltage. I had issues with the P3 locking the wheels on soft surfaces but it was fine on the road. A Tuscon DirectLink taps into the vehicle via the OBD port and works very well on all surfaces.
