We have a dip as we come out of our driveway, that is enough to set it off, so I just turned the brake assist off, problem solved!
Exactly, my daughters driveway has a slope to it and I have to turn it off when backing out. No big deal, just have to get use to all the new electronics.

Had this happen to me ONCE about an hour after taking delivery of my '19. Went to back into a parking space with one of those parking blocks. Immediately made my wife figure out how to turn that **** OFF. It has NEVER happened again, so OFF is OFF. My friend who is a MOPAR service instructor explained it's a function of rearward speed plus the computer's interpretation of a "threat" and that the higher the product of those two inputs, the more "assertive" (he actually said assertive) the application.

I've had mine for over a year now and I've found that if there is a dip in the driveway or in-climate weather it will apply the brakes unexpectedly. My guess is the newer trucks will be better but it sucks on this version. ESPECIALLY if your aren't expecting it (which is never).

We have a slope so I just turn if off at those times. Now in the parking lots where people think nothing of walking behind you as you are backing out... lets just say it scares us all when it suddenly stops - I then roll down my window and say "So glad they put these rear view brakes to save peoples lives that are too stupid to look where they are going"...

Maybe its boat launch assist
That's called Hill Start Assist and it helps keep the truck from rolling in the opposite direction the transmission is in. The HSA holds the brakes briefly or until the accelerator is depressed. This feature has been available on the Ram trucks since at least '13. It does not apply the brakes though.
It works well for me when I launch/retrieve my boat.

There is a TSB out on this issue and the dealer can download new parameters for the rear brake assist to reduce sensitivity. I had this done and it is no longer a problem.

I feel like he may have been joking that you'd back up and the sudden braking would launch your boat off the trailer.

You can turn either or both front and rear off. You can also adjust the sensitivity in the 12" screen. If your foot is not applying some braking force yes it will slam on. If you apply slight pressure while backing it will beep several times before it applies the brake. I leave the rear on as it works correctly. The front I turned off but left the beeping on to let me know I may be near collision if I'm looking away.

Brought my '20 home for the first time. Went to back up and couldn't. Nothing anywhere near me (well, within 30' or so!). H?ad to turn it off and haven't tried it again.

I feel that if you have Park Assist turned On with Tone, that should be more than enough. I don't need someone riding along to press the brake for me.

At low speeds my park sensors never stop chirping at me because snow, ice and dirt on the sensors makes them think something is there. Glad I don't have an auto brake feature.

I had the same thing happen one day. I was backing up into an open lot at my work and all of a sudden an alarm sound came on and my front dash turned red and said brake. I got whipped lash and was like WTF!?!? I got out and looked all around and there was nothing there. I keep it turned off now in the front and back

And don't you just love getting the alarms when you back up with a load that needs the tailgate down? Freaked me out until I got it sorted.
