The Power Stop Z36 are made for truck and tow. I haven't pulled anything yet but I can tell you the braking is better than stock. I didn't think stock was all that bad for me at least but these feel like that have a better grab for lack of better words towards the end of braking especially coming of and exit ramp. Less brake fade I guess.

Not trying to Jack the thread or nothing but, I’m curious- I’m thinking about doing my brakes myself here pretty soon because only being about 26,000 mikes in, my brakes have been making kind of a, not so much a grinding sound, but more like a sticky, noisy groaning sound I guess, when I come to a complete stop. It’s like the pads are sticking to the rotors and not gliding smoothly on the surface of the rotors. They still stop fine, they aren’t warped, and they’re not wearing unevenly, they’re just making to much of a noise and at making too much of a sticking sensation.

Sure, I could just take advantage of my warranty and have them put new brakes on but I really don’t want new of the same thing. I’d much rather have something better than stock anyways.

But since this is on a pickup, aren’t the factory pads a semi-metallic? I see some of you replaced with ceramic pads. I’m assuming this is fine but since they most likely put semi-Metallics on for a reason due to the fact that ceramics aren’t really ideal for trucks and towing because of the fact that when they get hot, the brake fades them inoperable whereas semi-mats will still work when hot.

I don’t pull anything heavy. The only trailer I pull is my little utility trailer that’s not heavy at all even when fully loaded.

Are some of these drilled and slotted rotors made for ceramic brakes? I don’t know, because I’ve never used those fancy rotors. I’ve only used aftermarket factory replacement parts for every brake job I’ve done

When I changed mine the drivers front inside pad was worn out the others were still good.
After scraping and wire brushing and using brake cleaner,
when I went to install the pads the inside one was still extremly tight and wouldn't just slide back and forth.
I had to take a small file and use it to clean the corners of the milled slots the pads ride in.
They had looked clean but the file brought up more hard material, rust and brake dust.
ram front caliper mount_LI.jpg
The circled areas are were I had to use the file plus the unseen one, I just dressed it out with the file cleaning the corners out good.
The buildup is what caused mine to hang and wear out early.

I also cleaned the rears the same, on the rears the inner pads had started wearing a taper in the pad .

Truck is at the dealer right now for an oil change, they only charge $18 for the Hemi as I bought is used from them. I have 56,000 miles on the truck, and they called me to say it needs brakes front and back.

I was looking for any posts that might recommend something other than stock parts, the only thing I saw was the package below from gotexhaust.com

https://gotexhaust.com/i-23698983-2009-2018-ram-1500-got-exhaust-performance-brake-package.html

Does anyone have any recomendations on pads and rotars, or package to buy ?

I converted the front brakes to Powerstop pads and rotors. It's still a seat of the pants improvement months later. Mine's a 2500 diesel that weighs 8600# with my popup. I have serious brakes now.

I am curious why you need brakes serviced at 56K miles. We are on our 4th RAM and have never had to do any brake work. Granted only one, our 2004 2500 had over 100K miles. The others were just under 100K miles when traded in.
I just had to do all 4 rotors and pads plus the parking brake pads at 35k. They were all rusted to crap. The parking brake pads came right off the shoes. Damn salt brine they use here to melt the ice melts your vehicles too. Can't wash it enough to keep ahead of it. I wish there was a way to back charge the state for the damages.
Everything came from Advance Auto.

140k km on my 2011 Hemi. Did front and rear pads and rotors in September. Went with Raybestos Performance rotors and Raybestos Hybrid pads. All in all happy with the outcome. Rotors are coated and slotted. Pads make zero noise unlike my old ones. Both provide good stopping power, haven't tested towing yet.

A lot of input there, so thank you all, I haven't been on since I posted, but update from my dealer was brakes weren't needed after all, still have 5mm on pads.

Though I will be using this advice when I do come to change, probably another 10 or 20K miles...I do a lot of highway driving probably 5oo miles a week.

I just replaced front brakes and rotors (went with Bosch coated rotors and ceramic pads from Rockauto) and have to say that I am pretty amazed at how long the original pads and rotors lasted. 112k miles on my 2014 Laramie 1500 crew cab and the original OEM pads wore perfectly uniformly and still had 3mm of pad left. Rotors were worn but still looked pretty good, especially having lived their life in Minneapolis salty winters. Probably could have run another 10k miles or more? I’ve never, ever had brakes last that long and still look that good - nice job Ram.

I didn't need brakes on my 2012 Bighorn until after 100k. The rear rotors were warped pretty good. For under $200 I bought and installed this set from Detroit Axle. Worked perfectly.

I didn’t have any problems when I did mine. Did the new cable fix it?

I know the voices in my head aren’t real, but man, do they ever come up with some great ideas.

ya'll finding replacing rotors is necessary or just going ahead with it for ease of mind? my '14 w/75k will need new brakes in the next 10k or so, already bought the powerstop z32 pads but haven't inspected rotors to see if they will need replacing.

Whenever I get around to doing my brakes, I plan on going with a drilled and slotted rotor just for better braking. No real real need to but I’ve just always wanted to try the performance rotors.
