Thanks, that's good to know. Hopefully our local one will start doing so before the local Sears closes (It's hung on through all the closings so far).

once I heard that my lowes does it I assumed it was all Lowe's stores, so hopefully your store catches up soon. Maybe ask a manager and not just some person working there?

I have had some of my Craftsman tools over 20 yrs and they were old when I got them. (Mechanic left town and his tool box, I as given everything by he shop owner when he shut his doors in 97). I had a ratchet break a couple of months ago, gears failed, took it to my local independently owned Sears, they replaced it no questions asked. But they did explain, the warranties no longer apply to electric tools or newer Craftman tools produced in Asia.

If you have a Kmart near you going out of business go to their tool section, ours had lots of mis-prices tools some of them off by 80% or more.

I was a Snap On dealer for 5 years. You should be able to put new guts in that thing, unless it was military issue. Any dealer can do it for you.

Son-in-Law is a mechanic. He took it to his Snap-on guy, who said they had no guts to fit it, could not special order new guts cause they were not available, thing was too old, Pre-WWII.
Rather that was true, or not, I do not know.

Honestly, doubt if I ever use it.

Lowe’s is closing some stores too, I’ve been trying to buy things from them versus HD if/when I can

I hear ya, I much prefer Lowes over HD. HD is the closer store to me, but I'll go to Lowes first every time.

I used to work at HD in Evergreen, Colo., so I tend to visit HD stores first (besides, the nearest one is closer to me by a few miles than Slowe's, err, Lowe's).

Now speaking of Craftsman, they still sell 'em at my local Ace store, so there's that...to be honest, though, I'm brand agnostic when it comes to tools. There's a little bit of everything in my tool chest! I will say that stepping into a Snap-on for the first time, just a few months ago, was an eye-opener! It was, of course, also a wallet-opener...dang, that stuff ain't cheap.

Same here, but that's only because I seem to continually loose the little buggers. There's a squirrel around here somewhere who has his nest decorated in 10mm sockets and wrenches, I'm certain of it. :)

Hop around working on 5-8 cars at a time. You need doubles of some tools.

Lowes and Ace Hardware now sell Craftsman, but at least our local Lowes only sell tool sets, no single pieces (of Craftsman) and no warranty swaps. They may still be ramping up to do more, not sure about that.

Do they ever! I frequent Lowes 2x a week on average out of habbit. A little while back they switched over to craftsman and essentially converted the whole store. It was like they painted the whole section red and removed anything non craftsman. I was surprised.

Just recently had an old 3/8" Craftsman ratchet stop ratcheting. Old, it was my Dad's originally, from the 50's or so and beat to Hell too. I took it to my local Ace Hardware store, they looked in their tool book for the proper authorized replacement, ordered it and in a week I had a brand-new Craftsman ratchet. No complaints here, it isn't stamped "China" or anything else so I *think* it was made in the USA...?

Stanley, Black and Decker bought rights to Craftsman. The Craftsman tools at Lowe’s are lower quality made by B&D. I don’t think the ones from Sears and Ace are made by B&D.
