I have used my switch several times, on gravel I could feel the front axle working, on mud the truck pulled thru better,
on packed snow the truck actually walked right up the hill. I drove back down the driveway and drove up without the switch active and you could feel the truck hesitate then pull hesitate again then pull hit the switch and a nice continuous pull.
As an added benifit if you drop into low range and button the transmission down into 2 or 3rd it actually has some engine holdback, it also does so in 1st but it is slow and it does require some brake application as the engine rpm will climb.
I haven't added much to my truck it is basicly stock, Brandon's Switch is the best that I have done to it.
I'm not in near as much of a hurry to get rid of it now.

I have a new truck on order that has the auto 4x4 selection, will be waiting to see if there will be a lock switch available for it.

@Brandon-w , any update on getting your switch to work with the new 5th gen 1500s? I had the overheat warning pop-up on my truck over the weekend while on some trails and during the vid below. At around the 3:18 mark you can see the truck going in and out of 2wd mode. I have a feeling your switch would help in this situation.

Oh yeah! You can definately see it jumping and hesitating adding and taking power away from that front axle. Is that in lock or auto? I've been curious about this as it seemed to work pretty good on my sisters truck but Havnt been able To Test it in real world situations like you have. The wiring is the same for the switch so in theory it would work and hook up the same.

So I guess they didn’t fix this in the 5th gens? That really sucks......

I don't think FCA would agree there is a problem because it is performing as designed. Thus, nothing to fix.

It would be great if FCA bought and installed Brandon's switch as OEM and made him rich.

This is in 4LO.
5th gen does not have a "lock" option, but I have a feeling there is no change in the actual function of the 4wd system. It's a name change only. Probably to fix their false advertisement of "lock".

I went out yesterday on a pretty serious trail. Way more hard use of 4wd compared to the last video I posted, but no "4wd overheat" message this time. I wonder of the TC clutch has a break in period or bedding in. Like when you bed in new brake pads. I think with new new 48-11 TC it locks up faster than the older 44-44, but there is still some delay. That delay kills momentum when traction is needed most.

I plan on getting an infrared temp gun to get some good data points when the TC switch arrives.

Oh man that looks like fun! You should fab up a tank slider. Looks like it's taken a few scrapes and bumps haha.. And lucky you get to open carry. Here in Canada the law gets real butt hurt about that kinda stuff lol.

I think the overheat happens under certain conditions that cause the xfer case to "fight" with other systems, like ABS, traction control and limited slip.

Brandon posted a couple videos....you see the fronts engage, turn a bit, disengage, re-engage, etc while the rears are doing something similar....traction, no traction, etc.

If you completely disable traction control (in any 4WD mode press and hold the traction control button for 10 seconds or so), the xfer case works a lot better at not toggling on/off. I think traction control gives the rear wheels enough traction to tell the xfer case to disengage, but the traction doesnt hold long enough to actually get anywhere so the xfer case re-engages. Only under certain conditions, like flat ground, pulling or pushing, etc.

I had a gas tank skid plate on order, but about 30 minutes ago I got an email stating they were cancelling my order because of a supply issue. I'll figure something out soon.

I posted this on the other thread but will do here as well.
Hey guys, just wanted to let you all know I am building harnesses again, I'm way behind so I apologize for the delay. I currently have three built and will be contacting those on my list (in order) who have been patiently waiting. It's been very cold here so I Havnt had a chance or bravery to test these out yet.
Thanks for your patience everyone

-25 !!! The good news is that gauge can go down that far and you get to see it, glad it's not me. It's clear blue skies and 63 today here in San Diego.

I've hunted in sub-zero weather knowing ot was temporary. For you, it's a way of life. You are to be admired.

That's true. None of my vehicles would be legal there. Especially my diesel.
