... I just joined & I've been checking this General Discussion 1st .
But now that I'm getting my feet on the ground somewhat.
I'm not finding the information that I'm really looking for. SO Is there another section that I should be going to for my information. What I need is answers to questions for swapping the very 1st 6BT FROM IT'S 1989 FRAME INTO my 1988 D250 GAS TRUCK . My 88 is a low mileage truck .. I need a location that'll know What IS THE DIFFERENCE IN THE 1988 Gas 727 trans & The 1989 Diesel 727 .. WHAT do I need to move from one truck to the next . Some have said the COMPUTER WANT MOVE OVER. I'm not sure about the Computer . ?. I think my trucks are old enough it wont matter.
But I've wondered about the RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT .. & i REMEMBER The very 1st diesel Pick-ups had to be recalled & something was done to the frames . So My 88 FRAME MIGHT NEED SOMETHING . I don't believe I;ll do anything to mine I'll just wait for issues .. If I get this swap done . Farm use I'll not put 7500 mile on it before my Demize . I'm 70 already But I'd sure love to convert My 1988 into The very 1st 89 diesel motor ..
...Thanks .

not sure if there's a specific forum for you to be posting in that would answer your specific question. However you could try in the cummins forum section or other cummins forums on line.

more likely, you'll just have to compare the two trucks and figure out what is different and what is the same and just start swapping. take lots of pictures before you disassemble.

as for the transmission question, try starting here:

ThankS REEK. tHIS Sight is alot like the CLASSIC BRONCOS.COM tHAT I'm on . Prople are friendly & no flamming . I WAS HOPING i COULD FIN MYANSWERS ONHERE .
.. i'M ALSO ON one called 4BTSWAPS .COM ... But they sold out & Went to Hell in a hand basket. It seems like where there used to be 500 fans helping now there is only 40.
.. I've checked several DODGE SIGHTS & most of them have not been very helpfull.
... But I'm not a very good mechanic . But I've been around a long time.
I had a parts store for years. Mom & Pop kind of store.
Then I worked for Chrysler at a diesel Dealership .. We worked on 100 Diesels a week. & About 25 cars (or every thing else) a week . & I worked there between 1998 & 2011... & Now I'm at a TRUCK Repair center .. & I'm also a farmer with Diesel tractors .. As I'm trying to down size I've sold my 1586 &1086 IH had a 1066 & stilll have the 404IH.
& 830 CASE The 1370 case is gone & I still have the Jubilee 1953 Fords Anniversary tractor . so I'm not a real Rookie bUT I'm no pro either .
I like to think I know enough to ask questions .
...... & I'm sure this swap can be done .. But I don't want to screw up a nice 88 truck . & I believe I need a better plan in place .
... & thanks guys .
............
..... ALSO Guys what does REPORT mean or get you . It's at the bottom of the page next to edit.... I'm not Familiar with what report goes too.
Thanks again.

70-early 90s dodge trucks are not too popular as far as I can tell. I just don't think there's much resource or as many enthusiasts that can give knowledge as there are for fords and chevys. I think old MOPAR in general is just more niche than chevy or fords. just try restoring a 70's mopar and you'll see there is a general lack of support.

having said that, there's still a few guys out there that know dodges backwards and forwards. so keep digging, keep working, you'll likely eventually get the swap figured out.

what shape is the 89's frame in? why don't you just swap the cab over to the 89's frame. there is a good chance the frames are the same wimpy frames. i don't think they started using the heavier frames till a couple years later. i know the frame on my buddies 92 i think is heavier than the frame on his 91. i am pretty sure electrically it should be plug and play. 88-90 were pretty similar.

MY 89 is a ****. It was owned by an old man who passed at app.90..
He'd bought the truck brand new . It was the 1st one sold by the dealership in Lampassas Tx. BUT Fred dorve it to check his cows on his farm & He did not miss a opperitunity to bump a tree rock or THE BULL. iT ONLY SHOWS IT HAVE APP 100K ON THE MOTOR. bUT NOTHING IS NOT bent . I noticed that one of the upper A-Frames was broke on the top side. His place was a rock farm.
..............
..... But I feel pull the motor & trans & Slide it down into the 1988. & I believe the wiring harness will rather swap into the 1988 .
... That stufff under the dash will scare me to death . I can no lnger function under the dash I'm too old.
... & I think I'd need to swap the 2 Radiator core supports ... & Of course I'd just replace the radiator.....
.... As far as the strengthen of the frame .. I say don't worry about it because I'll be treating my 88 easy. I'LL SAY MY HAY TRUCK WILL GET TREATED AS A 3 in a scale of 1 too 10.. SO I THINK it'd take a 9 steady to mess with the frame..
I maybe wrong .. But I only handled one of those claims when I worked for DODGE.
& i CAN'T REMEMBER 5% OF IT. tHE OLD GUY THERE HANDLED MOST OF IT.. iT WAS A RECALL.

a broken upper control arm is not unheard of on a 2wd. pretty sure the engine should be plug and play. you don't really need the computer but it is there for things like cruise control and to cycle the grid heaters when the engine is cold. yank the harness with the engine and swap it all at once.

you will need the diesel rad support to hold the rad. the diesel rad is much larger than a gas truck rad.

Thanks Wolfie .. Your reply is the same as my thoughts. Motor just swap over . Pull the wiring harness as far back as I can remove it.. I'll not have a Cruise control on the is truck .
Now the grid heater would be nice but an old push button &count to 15 should work on the glow plugs . What we did with an old Puego count to 15 I believe .
.... & I WAS THINKING THE Radiator support did need to be changed out .
... & Isn't the 727 behind the Diesel different fron the Gas 727..
Both have 727's.

as long as the frames are same length you likely have all parts needed to swap over if needed. both should have a dana 60 and you should have the right driveshaft yoke if that is different on the diesel 727.

wiring/computer should work so there be no need to put the grid heater solenoids on push button unless you have to. these trucks to not have glow plugs which is why they usually start so much better than the trucks with glow plugs.
