The 2V 4.6 and 5.4s were good engines for what they were, except for the spark plug spitting issue. Ridiculous that Ford only put something like 3 spark plug threads in the head. Not good. Beyond that they were decent. The 5.4 was designed to be a 300k engine. I pulled my Layton with a 2000 expedition Eddie bauer with the 5.4 and it had plenty of power to pull it, except in the mountains where it worked hard
Lol. I had mine spit out a plug. Still got me home, but she didn't sound healthy. Dealer put in a helicoil and it never happened again I also never changed the plugs again for fear of removing the coil

I had a 2001 Crown Vic Interceptor with the 5.4 and it ran good. No complaints with it. It had about 110,000 miles or so on it when I got rid of it. Not sure if those motors were the same as the ones in the F150's. Gas mileage was horrible. Only got about 12MPG with it. I got it with about 80,000 miles on it and it got a little better mileage but dropped quick at about 100,000 miles but still ran good.

Mine never did spit out a plug. It was a work horse that never quit. I like the higher horse power and torque I have now over the F150, but I miss it’s reliability.

I know the voices in my head aren’t real, but man, do they ever come up with some great ideas.

Yes, same as f150. All part of the Ford modular motor plan. I didn't think they put the 5.4 in the crown vic, I thought they were 4.6s?

I still love Ford but lost a lot of interest when they abandoned the pushrod V8.

It may have been the 4.6 now that you mention it. Can't remember now. I only used it for serving warrants and transporting prisoners so didn't pay much attention to the mechanicals....lol

Think they went to the 4.6/5.4 in 07 in the trucks prior it was a 302 or 5.0. Think back to the mustangs of the time and all those 5.0s on the fender, but the only resemblance between the old 5.0 and the coyote are they run on gas and have the same displacement.
They went to the 4.6 in the mustang in 96, and in the F150 with the new (at the time) body in 97. They stayed with the 4.6/5.4 until 2011 when they introduced the 3.5TT eco, 5.0 coyote and 6.2. 6.2 went away in the f150 I believe after 2013. 5.0 came back to the mustang in 2011 as well.

Anyone in a 1996-2010 mustang with a 5.0 emblem on it was either an idiot, or they replaced the stock engine with a 5.0.

Can you tell me about the AWD option in Montana. I’m looking at purchasing a Longhorn loaded or a Limited. The Limited prices out cheeped than the Longhorn.

The AWD works well for me given the conditions literally will change every 20 miles from dry to ice to slush and back to dry. A lot easier to drive in parking lots and tight spots and backing up is not a problem. Not all so true with full 4X4.

Agreed. I used to have an old Ford F-250 w/ a 460, and my current Pentastar-powered QuadCab can not only outpull it, but has more hp (mid-1970s 460 engine had 212hp, my little v6 has 305hp).

You cannot possibly compare the old trucks of Yesteryear to today's stuff... it doesn't hold up.

(OTOH, I'd positively kill to have the dual fuel tanks and dual battery setup that my old F-250 Supercab had...)

My point exactly and the travel trailers were not any lighter then, probably heavier given the materials, yet all this fuss.

I loved my f-150 ecoboost 4x4 super crew. I dare say in terms of power it pulled as good, and sometimes better than the Ram 2500 6.4 I replaced it with. Both with 6 speed trannys. Myself nor my brother never had a probelm out of either.. His went on to near 100K before he traded for a new 2018 f-150.
