Is it a 4x4? If so, are you running in 2wd or 4-auto?
Thats a good point to bring up. I sure hope that's what's causing it because due to the nature of how those Auto-4WD transfer cases work, leaving them in Auto-4WD all the time makes a ****-ton of drag on the power-train due to the whole front-end being locked in, except for at the transfer-case where the engagement clutches are, meaning that the hubs, front diff and driveline being spun by the front wheels.

Its bad enough that us that us 4WD users have to deal with bad drag anyways from the front hubs being virtually locked in all the time but hey, at least if we get in a sticky situation and get stuck in 2WD, at least we aint gotta hop out and spin hubs in....lol. Its a price we pay, I guess...

Give it a minute or 50,000.

Any new vehicle I've ever had gets much better mileage after the first few thou.

Oh, and just trust the gov't. They never fail. If they said 22/34, that's what you're getting. Your math is off.

My 2018 with the 5.7 is right around 500 miles now (bought still new on the lot a couple weeks ago)...3.92 gears, 4x4, crew cab, Big Horn package.

With me driving it gets 17.5 mpg driving mostly rural country roads, with my wife driving the same roads it gets 18.3 mpg.

How can you have MPG on two people with 500 miles? That's barely one tank :roflsquared:

That's what it figured out to...

It now has almost 1,000 miles, the numbers are still the same.

It's all about driving style. Starting and stopping.
No matter the vehicle I get 2.5-3.5 mpg better than my wife. I drive like an old grandpaw she drives like a teenager...

Search on my name and you’ll see I’ve been talking about this for awhile. I get <10 mpg city and FCA simply said it’s not their fault. I have a 2019 1500 with a 3.92 and never tow. Don’t believe the responses that say we all drive different or it’s because of the 3.92 or anything like that. FCA just lies from the beginning. Too bad, it’s a great driving truck, this is my only qualm.

I went from a 14 reg cab getting 19 hiway with the 645RE six speed
to an 11 Big Horn 4x4 with the old 545 5 speed that gets 12-13 city and MAYBE 15-16 hiway. But I knew this goin in. I like the crew cab ride and I like the hemi. You can keep that etorque crap. 2200+- more and another battery to replace and as you see here maybe as good as a reg for mileage. No thanks

So I just bought a new 2020 1500 Limited eTorque and I'm really having some issues with my MPG.

I've been through 4 tanks of gas so far, and here's what I'm getting:
1st tank - 13.02 MPG (in town) - 275 miles, 21.128 gallons
2nd tank - 12.17 MPG (in town) - 272 miles, 22.354 gallons
3rd tank - 16.96 MPG (all highway) - 377 miles, 22.226 gallons
4th tank - 16.21 MPG (all highway) - 328 miles, 20.229 gallons. For this tank I used the cruise control for ~80% of the time, left at 73 mph.

According to my window sticker I should be getting 17 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway. So I'm running about 25% lower MPG than advertised in the city and the highway. I took it to the dealership to ask them to look at it, but before I even dropped it off the service adviser told me it's all in how you drive it, and to try a different gas station. I told them that I let my wife drive it for one of the tanks, and all 4 fill ups were at different stations. Low and behold, they didn't find anything wrong with it.

What do you guys think about this? Anyone else seeing this kind of mileage? I have 2 family members with 2015 Ram 1500's that routinely get about 15/20 MPG. If I'm at 12/16 that's a huge disappointment for such an expensive truck.

I'd really appreciate any advice anyone can give me on working with a service department who's actually interested in seeing if there's a problem, or anything I can do to help refine this on my own.

Thanks,

Jeff

I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Limited with the Hemi eTorque with 14,000 miles. On long interstate highway trips driving 80 MPH, I average close to 19 MPG. On shorter trips on local highways at 65 MPH with very few stops, it averages in the high 19’s. Running around locally with 25% city and 75% highway, it averages in the mid-17’s. I haven’t seen much difference from the day I bought it until now. For what it’s worth, I love the eTorque for more reasons than just the slight gain in fuel efficiency. It provides a pseudo-synchronization between the engine and the transmission resulting in the smoothest shifting I have ever experienced. Also, it makes the start-stop system very pleasant to live with compared to other vehicles I have owned with start-stop (including an $80,000 Audi Q7).

Not exactly apples to apples but my truck is a 2015 2500 crew cab 6.4. I have had lots of time to watch my average mileage on the entertaining dash display. 77,000 miles.
The two things that affect my average:
Call me Captain Obvious.
Sitting stuck in traffic (my life) and you can watch the average count down. It is just using idle fuel but still zero mpg is being averaged in.
Speed: I have a major drop in mpg at speeds over 70 mph. These trucks push a ton of air. I have a 3.73 gear. I have seen 20 mpg on a trip at lower speeds. Mid 70s mph, 17 mpg or so average. Not bad for 2500 6.4 I don’t think.
I use top tier mid grade gasoline when I can. When I do have to fill up on no name gas, it doesn’t seem to make any difference in mileage. Who knows what gas that is anyway? I don’t think Bob and Sarah's store out there on the bypass have an oil well and refinery in their back yard. My usual smart butt answer when anybody asks me about what my mileage is, “I don’t know, but I have enough power to pull my house off the foundation if I want to.”

I have a 2019 ETorque Limited 5.7 and mine is about the sameon 87 octane. I get about 16 mpg in town and about 18 mpg on highway. Have never got as low as 12. You do need to use the 89 octane or you will get about 1.5 to 2 miles less. Even though the 89 octane costs more you can make up the difference in mileage. I live in mountainous area and do a lot of hill climbing which cost me a mile or so.

My 2019 Limited 5.7 etorque 3.92 4X4 gets 10 mpg pulling my trailer and 17 mpg just driving around. I have 18000 kms on it, I really like the etorque.

19 limited 3.21 with 13k non e-torque
I consistently get about 13 city. I did like 2mpg better in my gone 17 with 3.92. It must be all the power that 12" screen uses.
17 3.92 16-17 highway.
Now the ok part
19 limited 3.21 gears 21.5 highway.
But I rarely do long drives.
So
The only advantage of 3.21 is the engine noise is slightly less, at least for my purposes.
My fuel mileage expectations were low but I am surprised to see no benefit of 3.21 gearing other than its value to FCA for epa purposes.
As the masses report, 3.21 never again.

Couple things to factor in. Type of traffic ie: heavy. Light. Rush hour, congested, speed limits and type of fuel. 89 octane as recommended or 87 as acceptable. Another factor is fuel guality. I only use what is Top Tier.( not all stations sell top tier. Not even sure if available in US.

Yep, that’s why I like my 3:92’s. It may hurt my cruising mileage a little but at least around town where my truck spends the majority of its time, I think I get a little better mileage with the lower gears than I would with the higher ones.

As the old joke goes, if you have to ask the Maserati dealer what the gas mileage is, then you can't afford it!

Just remember, when sending your wife down the road with a gas can, it is impolite to ask
her to bring back beer.
:banana-mario:

Seriously, I have almost 20,000 on my 2019 RAM e-torque with 3.92 rear end. We have winter gas, added ethanol, to control air quality for Minnesota. The result is 13-16 mpg combination city/hiway. I can pay a buck more a gallon for non-ethanol gas, and I get 15-18 mpg.

have you done any mods on the engine? A cold air intake or changing the exhaust to a more open type may help. I have a 19 e torque and get around 18mpg avg. I have a S&B cold air intake and magna flow muffler system on mine...
