...that the truck wouldn't register a temp. It was -43c (-45f) so when I hopped in the truck the heated seats nor streering wheel were on. The drivers seat was on cool actually. The dash just showed (-- out). I guess Ram didn't think people drive after a certain temp.

One guy on here shows where -33 was the lowest it would show i believe.

Funny story, here where i'm at if it even threatens to sleet or precip below 32f, they close all kinds of things, schools, colleges, city/government, crazy stuff. Made me think of that when you said about not driving at that temperature.

Damn that's insane! Plus 72* here this morning. The lowest temp. I've ever experienced was 5* and that was 30 years ago. I don't know how you guys do it!

It was 72° here in Florida this morning, which I don't like for January, but dang, that's bitter cold where you are!

I grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska and recall many -40 to -50 degree winter nights. As a kid I delivered the Fairbanks Daily New Miner newspaper walking my route as Dad wouldn’t waste the gas. I presume you’re using the block heater and had it plugged in over night?

Yeah I use a blocker heater and battery smart charger. It's on a timer from 4am to 8am. After 4 hours it won't get any warmer. With power rates at .30/kwh it can get costly with 2 trucks plugged in.

I’ve only seen my dash register as low as -38’C, so I’m not sure if it is capable of registering lower.

Holy crap! I thought you were pulling our leg OP. I had to check it out and this is what the "All-Knowing Wikipedia" says -

Yellowknife (
/ˈjɛloʊnaɪf/; Dogrib: Sǫ̀mbak'è) is the capital and only city, as well as the largest community, in the Northwest Territories, Canada. It is on the northern shore of Great ***** Lake, about 400 kilometres (250 mi) south of the Arctic Circle, on the west side of Yellowknife Bay near the outlet of the Yellowknife River. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Yellowknife was −51.2 °C (−60 °F) on 31 January 1947, and the highest was 32.5 °C (90.5 °F) on 16 July 1989.

Good luck to you up there Sir! BTW - nice color on your truck!

Growing up in northern NY, near the Canadian border, it’s not unusual for it to dip to -25 to -30 in January. One one morning at about 5.30 when I was about 16 it was -25 (without wind chill) and I had to go to my job, milking the cows. Oh how I prayed my ‘65 Dodge Dart wouldn’t start and I could go back to bed, but damn that old slant six cranked right over and started right up!

I don't know how you guys stand all that heat, It is -25 this morning, in south Sask. BTW I had breakfast with a trucker from SC Sunday morning in Regina., He did think it was a bit cool.
Block heaters are standard eq., put that don't help if the cck breaker he motel trips . had that happen at -45 one time, Truck started , run synth. oil, for that reason Mu old 855 cummins was a summer truck.

You are right about the heat all the humidity down here makes it doubly worse so it feels like summer down here from April through November. I would almost be willing to trade the weather to get away from all the people down here. Coastal SC is the new Florida apparently. I wouldn't mind not having to worry about hurricane season that's for damn sure.
